Prestonfield

The 18-room luxury Prestonfield House is an opulent boutique hotel on a historic, 20-acre country estate in southeast Edinburgh. The epitome of Scottish luxury, the Prestonfield overflows with fine antiques, oil paintings, and lush fabrics to create a quirky, theatrical feast for the eyes. Each guest room is individually designed and furnished. The common threads are decadence and quality, which carry into the menu at the hotel's destination restaurant, Rhubarb, and the endless fascinating nooks and crannies in this unforgettable hotel.

Le Monde Hotel Edinburgh

This 18-room, upscale boutique hotel has an eclectic style with city-themed rooms and suites. Located right in the center of Edinburgh, all the top attractions are within a short walk. There’s plenty to keep party-goers busy here too, as the hotel has two stylish bars, and its own nightclub in the basement. There’s also a relaxed coffee lounge and a
hip restaurant serving modern international cuisine. It’s an ideal choice

The Dunstane Houses
4 West Coates & 5 Hampton Terrace, Haymarket

The 38-room upscale Dunstane Hotel is a family-owned boutique hotel built in two luxury Victorian townhouses, circa 1852, that face one another across an Edinburgh street. The owners come from the Orkney Islands, and take pride in infusing elements of their heritage into the property, creating a quirky, classy atmosphere with plush fabrics, elaborate period-style wallpaper with a twist, and, of course, fine Scotch whiskey. Individually designed and decorated guest rooms combine modern luxury and period character. For a hotel within walking distance of Old Town attractions, consider Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor.

The White Lady
92-98 St. Johns Road Corstorphine

Located in between the airport and downtown Edinburgh on one of the city's busiest roads, The White Lady is a mid-range hotel with 30 rooms in three different sizes: Family, Twin, and Double. Each room comes with traditional Scottish decor, a tea kettle, and free WI-FI. One of Edinburgh's main bus routes passes directly by the hotel and will take riders to town in 15 minutes. Owned by JD Wetherspoon, which is known for its chain of reasonably priced restaurants with hearty pub fare, The White Lady is a very good "meat and potatoes" option. By comparison, the Jurys Inn Edinburgh is closer to Old Town's historic sites at a lower price, but its beds and bathrooms aren't quite as nice.

The Raeburn

The Raeburn is an upscale, family-run boutique hotel set in a charming Georgian building in Edinburgh's affluent Stockbridge neighborhood. Although having undergone a smart, contemporary renovation there's still plenty of period charm throughout, and both bar and restaurant are popular with locals. The 10 guest rooms are well-finished with plenty of luxury touches -- even roll-top baths in some -- and in-room tech is also impressive. While it's a bit away from most of Edinburgh's tourist attractions, it's one of very few hotel in this lovely area, and one that justifies its high-end price tag.

Ramsay's B&B

Ramsay's B&B occupies part of an inconspicuous and typically Edinburgh Georgian terrace in the Canonmills neighborhood on the eastern edge of Edinburgh's New Town. The owners of this budget property provide a particularly warm welcome -- with whiskey -- and interiors are impeccably finished yet homey. Rooms are pleasant, with wood floors and crisp colors, though the smallest of the four is tiny, with a shared bathroom. Rates aren't cheap for a bed-and-breakfast, but the amount of repeat visits from guests is testimony to the guesthouse's special atmosphere.

Angels Share Hotel

This upscale boutique hotel is right in the heart of lively Edinburgh. Just at the end of Princes Street, all the main attractions are a short walk away. The hotel has a truly Scottish personality, and a cool, contemporary style. Each of the 31 rooms is dedicated to a Scottish icon like Rod Stewart, and decorated in a modern, minimalist way. The restaurant serves great Scottish dishes and the bar is a stylish hotspot for both tourists and locals. Angels Share is slightly cheaper than the nearby Tigerlily, so it offers great value in a hard-to-beat location.

The Royal Scots Club

The Royal Scots Club is a private members club that opened its doors as a hotel to the public whilst maintaining all of its traditional heritage. Location of this mid-range property is excellent, being set in the quieter, upmarket New Town while being just about within walking distance of the center. The 25 individually decorated rooms are cozy, and some have great views -- though basement level can feel dingy. A dress code for dining, and old-fashioned interiors won't appeal to all, though rates are good for a mid-range hotel in Edinburgh and there's certainly nothing else quite like it about.

AmarAgua Guest House

The AmarAgua is a traditionally styled bed-and-breakfast housed in a quaint terrace townhouse built towards the end of the 19th century. The five guest rooms are clean and homey, and most have four-poster beds. As well as particularly friendly hospitality from the owners, breakfast is a real highlight with a range of options from haggis to waffles -- though guests might need to set an alarm not to miss it. Location of this budget property is pleasant and quiet, though a 15-minute bus journey from the city center. If setting isn't an issue, then rates are very reasonable and there's very little to find fault with at this particularly welcoming Edinburgh guesthouse.

No. 11 Brunswick Street

No. 11 Brunswick Street is an upscale, charming boutique hotel in a quiet area on the edge of the city center. Built in 1822, the property still retains some of its beautiful original features, such as ornate cornices and ceiling roses. The 10 rooms are chic and elegant, with luxurious bathrooms. There’s an excellent restaurant that uses local produce for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The property may not have all the facilities of a large city center hotel, but it offers a peaceful and stylish retreat.
