Hotel Perla
Setaliste kralja Zvonimira

Hotel Perla is a small lower-middle-range hotel located on a lively pedestrian street lined with cafes and restaurants. Its 23 guest rooms are simply decorated, but comfortable and kept impeccably clean, and all have balconies. Breakfast costs extra, but guests receive a discount at the on-site restaurant. The hotel is located in Lapad, a popular beach area just outside of Dubrovnik city center. The beach is a two-minute walk away, and the bus to Dubrovnik's Old Town stops close by, making it a convenient place to stay. Travelers should also compare rates with nearby Hotel Zagreb, a charming old villa with a large, lush garden, and breakfast included in room rates -- but no elevator or in-room minibars.

Hotel More
Kardinala Stepinca 33

Built on a cliff overlooking Lapad bay, Hotel More has its own private access to the Adriatic from a concrete terrace along the rocky shore. Travelers looking for a sandy beach may be disappointed, but the hotel hides a natural cave that makes Top 10 lists for coolest bars in the world. The restaurant pairs regional dishes with an extensive wine list and outdoor terrace. Rooms are posh if dated, but they have marble bathrooms with big jetted tubs. Sightseers must travel across the peninsula to get to Old Town attractions, but views of the islands are right outside.

Hotel Adriatic
Masarykov Put 5

Hotel Adriatic, an 108-guest room, seaside budget hotel, is a 1960s relic that's dated but exceptionally well-located, just a minute's walk from the beach, though outside of Dubrovnik's Old Town. The best rooms are on the upper floors facing the sea, featuring balconies and newer furniture. Other units are less well-maintained, with worn furniture and dated floral accents. In-room amenities are limited across the board -- AC, Wi-Fi (sometimes slow), and old tube-style TVs are about all guests can expect. A decent, free hot breakfast is served in the hotel's sea-view restaurant across the street, and half-board dining options are available. Travelers looking for more in-room and on-site amenities can consider the nearby Hotel Splendid, but it's also dated, and pricier.

Ariston Hotel
Kardinala Stepinca 31

This four-and-a-half-pearl luxury boutique hotel is perched on the rocky edge of the hilly, green Babin Kuk peninsula. The property is located about a 15-minute drive outside Dubrovnik's Old City, so it isn't ideal for travelers seeking proximity to sights, but hotel's semi-remote, seaside location adds much to the romantic ambiance. Public spaces and 115 guest rooms remain fresh from 2016 renovations, and in-room amenities are upscale, as all units have large flat-screen TVs, minibars, kettles, coffeemakers, robes, slippers, and free Wi-Fi. Though while spacious and nicely equipped, bathrooms look slightly dated. Features are solid, too, with restaurants, a spa, three outdoor pools, and direct beach access. Travelers who to stay in Old Town and keep the same range of high-end amenities should check into the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik.

Hotel Splendid
Masarykov Put 6

Located on Lapad Bay, the three-pearl Hotel Splendid is a seasonal property with a garden that leads down to a private beach. It's within walking distance of the bustling Lapad Bay promenade, but far from Dubrovnik's historic center. The 59 guest rooms are tidy and spacious, and all have balconies, most with beautiful sea views. Decor is dated, though, and other than the AC, minibars, and free Wi-Fi, in-room amenities are limited, and some have old tube-style TVs. A buffet breakfast is included in the room rate, but it gets mixed reviews. There's also a garden restaurant, a hotel bar, and a beach bar. Half-board options are available. But there's no gym on-site, and sunbeds and umbrellas for the beach cost an extra. Also, the hotel doesn't have an elevator. For more modern decor and better amenities, travelers can consider Hotel Uvala -- a bit pricer, but perhaps a better value.
