JA Ocean View Hotel
The Walk, Al Mamsha Street, 27, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Residence

Located on the Walk, Dubai’s well-known beach promenade, the four-pearl JA Ocean View Hotel is close to the beach and dining options. Along with a day at the beach, guests have access to a large rooftop pool, Calm Spa, gym, seven dining options, a (charged) hot breakfast buffet, and meeting rooms. It also doesn’t hurt that they have free access to a sister hotel’s private beach via a free shuttle service. The 342 rooms are modern with flat-screen TVs, kettles, and balconies with ocean views, but they lack minibars. The property is an excellent pick for couples and families as there are plenty of kid-friendly amenities. However, it's worth pricing the Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, which has extra pools, a popular bar, and is close to the Palm Jumeirah.

Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai
Al Emreef Street

Dubai’s 749-room luxury Grosvenor House is one of Dubai’s most iconic hotels, with two outdoor pools, an on-site spa, and private butler service. From traditional rooms to grand apartments with balconies, the hotel pays attention to details, which is evident from the hardwood and marble in guest rooms to the uber-trendy Buddha Bar, the hotel’s famous restaurant and nightclub offering some of the best food and nightlife in Dubai. Though Grosvenor House doesn’t have its own beach, guests have unrestricted access to the private beach at Le Royal Meridien, the hotel’s sister property, and the trendy shops lining The Walk are within a 15-minute walk. Guests should be aware that some of Grosvenor's nightclubs and bars are subject to restrictions and closures during Ramadan, the dates of which vary from year to year. Those looking for a full service resort might want to consider Anantara Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa, which has stunning skyline views and a secluded vibe at the same price point as Grosvenor House.

Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort
Al Mamsha Road, Near The Walk At JBR, Dubai Marina

The Sheraton is a small family-friendly resort located on the southernmost part of famous Jumeirah Beach. It features an impressive array of on-site activities, including a PADI-certified diving center; a great kids’ club with activities; several restaurants and bars; a large pool; manicured grounds; and a wonderful fitness center. Rooms -- while spacious and featuring solid amenities -- are a little bland, and few have balconies. Many, however, feature striking sea or The Walk views. Overall, the resort may not be as luxurious as advertised, but it offers a comprehensive list of great amenities, and a more laid-back vibe than other hotels in the area.

J5 Hotels - Port Saeed
Al Garhoud Road, 27 Street

J5 Hotels - Port Saeed is a dated mid-range property just a four-minute drive from the Dubai International Airport. Although it's close to City Centre Diera shopping mall, there's little else of interest in the immediate area, and guests will need to take taxis or public transportation to reach sights. The 134 apartment-style rooms have old-fashioned furnishings, but they're kitchenettes with stovetops and microwaves are convenient. A heated rooftop pool and adjacent bar are pleasant, though views from here are mediocre. A well-equipped gym, whirlpool, steam room, and sauna are on-site, as is a 24-hour restaurant serving breakfast buffets. For more modern, upscale rooms and additional amenities, consider Flora Creek Deluxe Hotel Apartments.

Fairmont Dubai
Sheikh Zayed Road, 308 Road, 51

Opened in 2002, this 394-room property was Fairmont's first foray into the international market. But, given the number of stylish high-end hotels in Dubai, it’s the location that most impresses the business execs who tend to stay here. Easy access to the Dubai World Trade Centre makes it a convenient choice for such guests, while a wealth of related features -- including on-site meeting spaces -- make it a practical one. When downtime is needed, a Romanesque spa, a pair of rooftop pools and a range of restaurants fill the bill. For a newer variation on the theme, try the Conrad Dubai Hotel, which debuted next door in 2013. If you’d prefer a beachfront place bearing the Fairmont name, consider its sister hotel on Palm Jumeirah instead.

The Palace At One&Only Royal Mirage Dubai
Al Sufouh Road, Jumeirah Beach

This impeccable luxury resort is pleasantly isolated from the rest of the city on a private stretch of Jumeirah Beach, a 25-minute drive from downtown Dubai. Its 452 rooms and suites emphasize Arabic design, and are spread through the property’s Palace, Arabian Court, or Residence & Spa sections, with sea or garden-view balconies. If the 13 restaurants/bars, four pools, and first-rate spa, hammam, and gym aren’t enough entertainment, guests can also use the sister property’s facilities on the Palm Jumeirah (via a free shuttle boat). Plenty of kid-friendly programs and nighttime entertainment are available, but the vibe here is mostly peaceful and refined for business travelers and couples. Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina has a livelier, beach party atmosphere.

XVA Art Hotel
Al Fahidi St, Opp Musallah Post Office, Near Dubai Museum

The mid-range XVA Art Hotel packs a whole lot of art into a small boutique hotel -- not a common feat in mega-hotel loving Dubai. The 13 individually themed guest rooms are intricately decorated and have mini-fridges, safes, and rainfall showers in stylish bathrooms, but rooms lack TVs. Features include an art gallery with contemporary Arab work, a shop that sells art and textiles from Middle Eastern designers, and a wonderful vegetarian cafe that also provides room service. XVA Art Hotel is located by Dubai Creek, and is a short drive to The Dubai Mall, the Burj Khalifa, and Dubai International Airport. Those seeking a pool, gym, or more space could check out the nearby Arabian Courtyard Hotel, though it's far less charming.

Fortune Grand Hotel Apartments, Bur Dubai
Al Mankhool Road, Opposite Standard Chartered Bank, Bur Dubai

Fortune Grand Hotel Apartment is a classic, mid-range apartment-style hotel that offers solid, affordable accommodations. The property is situated about a 15-minute walk from the metro in budget-friendly Bur Dubai, a generally safe but downmarket neighborhood beyond the glitz of downtown Dubai. Its 126 spacious studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments have roomy full kitchens with all of the necessary conveniences, plus washing machines, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, though decor is fairly generic. Features are fairly standard for similar properties in the area -- there's a 24-hour restaurant and room service, a small gym and sauna, and a rooftop pool. Guests on the market for more modern decor might consider the Raintree Rolla Hotel, which is also closer to the metro.

Radisson Blu Residence, Dubai Marina

The Radisson Blu Residence is a four-pearl apartment block located halfway along Dubai’s marina, a five-minute walk from the Marina Mall and 10 minutes to the beach. However, it takes around 25 minutes by car to reach Downtown sights like the Burj Khalifa. The hotel’s 152 apartments are fresh, spacious, and feature well-equipped kitchens with dishwashers and washing machines, plus free Wi-Fi. However, some rooms have unattractive views of the highway, and experience noise from passing cars. An outdoor pool, modern gym, and sauna facilities (only for men) round out the amenities. Though there's no on-site restaurant, several are nearby, as is a supermarket. Travelers who don't need kitchens may prefer the Intercontinental Dubai Marina, which has a spa, multiple restaurants, and late-night bars.

Al Khoory Executive Hotel – Al Wasl
Al Wasl Rd

The mid-range Al Khoory Executive Hotel - Al Wasl is located in an older part of Dubai, with little in the immediate surrounds except for the Iranian Hospital a five-minute walk away. Although its neighborhood lacks attractions, travelers can get to most within 30 minutes by taxi. There's no pool here, so guests tend to be business guests or value-seeking tourists that prioritize the quiet atmosphere, bright and modern interiors, and affordable rates. The 208 rooms are colorful and mostly contemporary, outfitted with flat-screen TVs, kettles, and free Wi-Fi. The on-site restaurant Spices receives favorable reviews and the lounge offers non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. Other features include a well-equipped gym, sauna, and steam room, plus a business center and meeting rooms. The three-pearl Arabian Park Hotel is comparable and adds a pool and nearby metro stop.
