Ocean Varadero El Patriarca
Autopista Sur km 18, Punta Hicacos

**Following new *U.S. State department regulations* issued November 9, 2017, American travelers are prohibited from staying at this hotel. Read the full list of restricted businesses **here. The 420-room Ocean Varadero El Patriarca is arguably the most modern family-friendly all-inclusive in the area. Its rooms are truly upscale, its a la carte restaurants don't require reservations (a rarity), its coffee bar serves first-rate brews (not often found at competing properties), and there's great evening music at the swanky piano bar. Unlike at the larger, neighboring Paradisus Varadero, there are no rooms with ocean views, but guests seeking a more intimate environment and more stylish room decor will be happier here.

Melia Las Americas
Crta. De Las Morlas

The 340-room, adult-only Melia Las Americas is a slightly more mature take on the typical upper-middle-range beach resort in Varadero. In addition to its freeform pools and postcard-worthy beach, it offers a location by a tournament-level golf course and an attractive gym with floor-to-ceiling windows. Rooms aren't fashion-forward, but they are exceptionally pleasant for a Cuban resort, and most have balconies and ocean views. Five restaurants and six bars provide a wide range of food and drink, and a full theater and a beauty salon give other diversions. Another winning adult-only option to consider could be the Royalton Hicacos Varadero Resort & Spa.

Melia Las Antillas
Autopista Sur, Carretera Las Morlas, Km 14

This 350-room, mid-range Melia Las Antillas is one of only a handful of resorts in the area for adults only. Its beach is beautiful, and 69 of the rooms have ocean views. The property is dated (it opened in 1999), but the pool and theater received renovations in late 2015. It's a step above the (cheaper) Roc Barlovento located downtown, which has more basic rooms and no ocean views. But unlike most Varadero resorts, there's no Wi-Fi in the lobby, just Internet on two PCs.

Be Live Experience Turquesa
Las Morlas, Km.12,5, Reparto La Torre

The lower-middle-range Be Live Experience Turquesa is an all-inclusive resort with a smaller stature at 268 rooms including 26 bungalows. The breezy open-air lobby with splashes of signature turquoise gives an inviting welcome, and the pristine beach and sunny pool are also appealing. But rooms, with drab furniture and some maintenance issues, lack the same charm. Still, the three on-site restaurants, multiple bars, kids’ club, and mini-golf, among other activities, could offer enough diversions that guests won’t linger in their rooms except to sleep. Travelers could compare rates with the Sol Palmeras, another family-oriented resort, though maintenance issues exist there as well.

Paradisus Varadero Resort & Spa
Punta Frances

**Following new *U.S. State Department regulations* issued November 9, 2017, American travelers are prohibited from staying at this hotel. Read the full list of restricted businesses **here. The 794-room Paradisus Varadero is one of the area's top luxury resorts, and delivers plenty of wow factor, with a stunning lobby, large ocean-view pool, and beautiful white-sand beach. Rooms are clean, with traditional style and free minibar items; the Royal Service rooms are well worth the upgrade. The sprawling layout means privacy and a big stretch of beach, but also plenty of walking or waiting for golf carts. Food is above average for Varadero, if not as good as at other luxury all-inclusives elsewhere in the Caribbean, and the spa is one of the area's best. Those seeking a more intimate resort might prefer the Ocean Varadero El Patriarca, which has more modern style.

Hotel Roc Barlovento
Ave 1ra e/ 9 y 12

The mid-range, 293-room Hotel Roc Barlovento is the most affordable adult-only option in Varadero. It's the first resort along the Varadero peninsula, located at the beginning of the downtown area. This means guests can walk to shops and restaurants, but the resort's footprint is smaller, and the beach less secluded. Basic, dated rooms lack ocean views, but they're fine for the price. All in all, it's a good value, but those looking for a nicer stretch of beach might prefer sister property Hotel Roc Arenas Doradas -- though it allows children.

Melia Cayo Coco
Jardines del Rey, Ciego de Ávila

This adult-only upper-middle-range resort from the Melia chain offers a serene, relaxed beach getaway on Cayo Coco, an island studded with other all-inclusive resorts. An array of features includes a large and attractive outdoor pool, several restaurants and bars, a fitness center and sports courts, plus direct access to a pretty stretch of white-sand beach. A variety of 250 guest rooms are available -- some in bungalows on stilts over a seawater lagoon -- and though decor can look a bit dated, the spaces are clean, sunlit, and offer a good set of amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, private balconies/terraces, and rainfall showers in the bathrooms. For a kid-friendly option, check out the Sol Cayo Coco, which has a kids' club and play area on the beach.

Melia Jardines del Rey
Carretera A Cayo Guillermo Km 9, Playa Flamenco

**Following new *U.S. State Department regulations* issued November 9, 2017, American travelers are prohibited from staying at this hotel. Read the full list of restricted businesses **here. Melia Jardines Del Rey is a family-friendly, upper-middle-range whopper of an all-inclusive resort that's spread out across sprawling beachfront grounds like a private island compound. Its 1176 rooms are spacious, with balconies and stocked mini-fridges. Classic Rooms are pleasant, although they show some wear. Suites up the style ante, with beachy wicker furniture and perks like hydromassage bathtubs. The white-sand beach with a cute thatch-roof bar, is without a doubt the property's best feature. The outdoor pools with swim-up bars are also a hit. While there are nine dining options and six bars, food reviews are mixed and many of the a la carte restaurants are open only for dinner. For couples seeking a quieter vacation, the adult-only Melia Cayo Coco offers many of the same all-inclusive features and similar rooms.

TRYP Cayo Coco
Ave. Los Hoteles

Tryp Cayo Coco is an all-inclusive three-pearl resort with sprawling palm-treed grounds and plenty of space for guests to find tranquillity or fun or both. The 607 rooms are dated, but clean and vibrant. They come with large patios (some with stunning sea views), mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs. Overall, the resort is starting to show its age, however grounds are meticulously maintained and updates are underway as of 2017. The biggest highlights here are the gorgeous aqua beach (Playa Larga) on which the resort sits, and the enormous lagoon-style pool. There’s plenty to eat, drink, and do on-site -- guests appreciate the evening entertainment, and while food reviews are mixed, the buffet is solid and diverse -- there are five a la carte restaurants. TRYP isn’t luxurious, but it’s well suited to families, couples, and groups (especially water lovers) seeking a laidback timeout. Travelers seeking a newer Cayo Coco resort could try Melia Jardines Del Rey

Colonial Cayo Coco Hotel
Jardines Del Rey Moron, Avenida De Los Hoteles S/n

Mid-range Hotel Colonial unfolds like a charming Spanish village -- bordered by a stretch of white-sand coastline for which Cayo Coco is renowned. As Cayo Coco’s first ever resort, the place could really use some updates, but guests appreciate the Old World charm and many return every year. Brightly-colored colonial buildings contain the 458 rooms and wrap around its two sweeping pools and palm tree grounds. The rooms are simple but come with furnished balconies and pool, sea, or garden views. There’s plenty to eat and drink on-site -- some guests love the all-inclusive food, while others leave unimpressed. A major (off-site) highlight is the sprawling spa center that feels like a slick European transplant. Those seeking a more contemporary vibe could try Melia Jardines del Rey.
