Aria Hotel Budapest by Library Hotel Collection
5 Hercegprimas Street

The Aria Hotel Budapest is a swanky, music-themed hotel that earns its five-pearl status with inspired decor, ultra-modern touches, and a peaceful location in the city center. Among the city's top hotels, the Aria suits families and couples alike. It offers 49 spacious, individually decorated guest rooms with 55-inch flat-screen TVs and in-room iPads; five themed suites have elegant parlors and balconies or terraces. Features include a spa with musically inspired treatments, and a heated indoor pool. The restaurant serves international cuisine and there's a rooftop terrace bar with exceptional city views. The hotel offers a free, decadent breakfast buffet and a free nightly wine and cheese reception, sometimes with live music. The main competition is the significantly pricier Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, a five-pearl property situated nearer the Danube in an historic Art Nouveau building.

Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace
Szechenyi Istvan Ter 5 - 6

This 179-room luxury hotel, housed in a grand, historic landmark Art Nouveau building, is easily one of the top options in not just Pest's Inner City but Budapest as a whole, along with the nearby Aria Hotel. Its rooms are sophisticated and understated, and some have great views of the Danube and Buda Castle -- though others face an interior courtyard. Features include a chic indoor pool, a luxury spa with a sauna and steam rooms, a modern fitness center, and 24-hour business center. It's tough to top, but those who prefer a more intimate, boutique-like experience might be happier at the Aria.

InterContinental Budapest
Apaczai Csere Janos Utca 12-14

The four-pearl InterContinental Budapest is housed in a behemoth block of a building covered in gray glass. However, the interior certainly is an improvement, and has 402 air-conditioned rooms, a spa, pool, fitness center, restaurants, and lovely Danube views. Rooms are generic but pleasant enough, with clean white linens, red accents, wooden furniture, and basic shower/tub combos, as well as large flat-screen TVs. Some parts of the hotel are gloomy and could do with updating -- especially the indoor pool, which is small and lacks natural light.

The Ritz-Carlton, Budapest
Erzsebet Ter 9-10

Formerly Le Meridien, this stately and centrally located luxury hotel is now operated by the Ritz-Carlton; the lobby, restaurant, and guest rooms underwent renovations in 2015 and 2016. Many of the 170 guest rooms and 30 suites overlook Erzsebet Square, and some offer views of St. Stephen’s Basilica. The rooms are large and elegant, extending the sophisticated decor displayed in the public areas. There's also a restaurant, bar, lounge, spa, five meeting spaces, a ballroom, a fitness center, and an indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. This hotel’s central location near some of Budapest’s main attractions and the quality of its amenities make it a solid choice, but travelers could compare rates and features with the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace.

K+K Hotel Opera
Revay Utca 24

This upper-mid-range, modern hotel is centrally located next to the Hungarian State Opera, and looks impressive from the outside, with regal flags flying in the Budapest breeze. The pedestrian zone and most of the key sights are within walking distance of the hotel. All 206 rooms are cheerful and come with air-conditioning and minibars, although it’s best to ask for a room that faces the courtyard to avoid street noise. The hotel has a spa with massage services as well as a sauna and a small gym. Breakfast costs extra, but if you're looking for a free breakfast in the same area, the Opera Garden Hotel & Apartments is just around the corner for an alternative stay.

Mango Aparthotel and Spa
Hollo utca 12-14

Mango Aparthotel and Spa is a modern, budget-friendly apartment hotel in the heart of Budapest with 30 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments that are modernly furnished with flat-screen TVs, fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, balconies, and washing machines. Rooms are air-conditioned, but guests have to pay extra to use the service. There is also a gym and a spa with saunas, a hot tub, and a pool, but it costs extra to use. For apartments where air-conditioning is no extra charge, check prices at the nearby K9 Residence.

Eurostars Budapest Center Hotel
Kossuth Lajos utca 7-9.

The Eurostars Budapest Center is a centrally located hotel with elegant decor and gracefully understated rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. There's also a small fitness center with modern machines and a relaxing sauna. The on-site Eurostars Cafe & Bar serves Hungarian and international cuisine at lunch and dinner as well as a large breakfast buffet (for a fee). Note that pets and service animals are not allowed, and some feel decor in the rooms and restaurant isn't quite up to par for a four-pearl property.

Opera Garden Hotel & Apartments
Hajos utca 24

The Opera Garden Hotel & Apartments is located in the city center on a charming pedestrian street that's closed off to cars and lined with cafes and bars. It is just a five-minute walk to the Opera House and a short walk or metro ride to many other sights. The 35 guest apartments are contemporary and all have kitchens and separate living rooms. There are an on-site fitness room and a roof garden; in addition, all guests get a quality free breakfast and access to a mobile app that provides free Wi-Fi throughout the entire city.

7Seasons Apartments Budapest
Kiraly utca 8

Located in the heart of Budapest, the 7Seasons Apartments combine the conveniences of a hotel and the homey feel of an apartment complex. This three-pearl property has 115 bright rooms ranging from double rooms to studio to three-bedroom configurations, and even the smallest ones make smart use of space. The property is family-friendly and brimming with conveniences including baby care items, a restaurant, and assistance with car rental and sightseeing tours. However, there have been some complaints of noise in rooms. As an alternative, the Queen's Court Hotel & Residence has suites with kitchenettes plus a bar and restaurant on the property.

Baltazar Budapest - Boutique Hotel
Orszaghaz utca 31.

This 11-room boutique hotel, located within the walls of Buda Castle on the Buda side of the Danube, is one of the city's best upscale options. The vibrant, individually decorated rooms were styled by celebrated Hungarian designer Tibor Somlai. The reception desk doubles as a bar and the on-site Baltazar Hungarian Grill gets good reviews for its modern takes on Hungarian classics; the attached wine bar has an extensive list of Carpathian wines. However, the hotel offers little more in terms of amenities, and there's no gym, spa, or business facilities.
