Mercure Budapest Korona Hotel
Kecskemeti utca 14, Parking in the hotel garage Magyar utca

Perfectly located right in the city center and close to the Danube River, Mercure Budapest Korona Hotel is always bustling with guests thanks to its status as a popular rest stop for tour groups and cruise liners. This mid-range hotel is a large property with 421 rooms, and it's divided into two separate buildings which are connected via a glass bridge. There’s an on-site swimming pool and sauna, free Wi-Fi throughout, and the upper-category rooms have the extra perk of having Nespresso machines. But a downside to this hotel is its overall look and feel, which is of a typical cookie-cutter hotel chain. For a hotel with more stylish interiors, travelers could try the La Prima Fashion Hotel, which lives up to its name.

Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge
Szechenyi Istvan Ter 2

The 357-room, eight-story Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel is an upscale property a block from the Danube River, within easy walking distance of nightlife, restaurants, and tourist sights. The hotel offers spectacular views of the river, bridge, and Castle District from its upper floors. Attached to a casino, the Sofitel has two restaurants, a chic bar, a spa, a small indoor pool and fitness center, and 17 meeting and event rooms. An expansive atrium-style lobby features modern decor, but guest rooms lean toward traditional, and are a bit dated. Rooms have roomy marble bathrooms, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Travelers might also want to check out the nearby InterContinental Budapest, but it doesn't have a casino and Wi-Fi comes with a fee.

Budapest Marriott Hotel
Apaczai Csere Janos utca 4

It's easy to get a room with a view at the upscale Budapest Marriot Hotel. The property is on the riverfront, and all of it 264 rooms have balconies with views of the Danube and many of the city’s landmark buildings. It may be worth paying a little extra -- the equivalent of the cost of breakfast here -- for rooms with access to the 24-hour Executive Lounge, which offers free breakfast, and drinks and snacks. Be aware that in-room Wi-Fi comes with a fee, rooms lack minibars or mini-fridges, and there's no spa or pool. For an upscale hotel with a pool, travelers could try the Continental Hotel Zara Budapest.

Novum Hotel Golden Park Budapest
Baross ter 10

The mid-range Golden Park Hotel is conveniently located next to Budapest’s main train station, and is about a two-minute walk to the Keleti Palyaudvar metro station. The 179 rooms are spread over seven floors of an attractive Art Deco-era building. The hotel has been undergoing renovation since 2014, which means the rooms vary widely in quality -- Superior Rooms on the top floor, some of which have sitting areas, offer the most value. An Italian restaurant attached to the hotel gets excellent reviews, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Guests might also want to check out the Marmara Hotel Budapest, which has slightly higher rates but is in the heart of the city center and closer to the river.

art'otel budapest
Bem rakpart 16-19

The upper-middle-range art’otel budapest is a safe option for a business or leisure trip to Budapest, as it's in a walkable location right next to the Danube River and close to some of the city's major sights and public transport. The hotel itself is modern and stylish, with 165 spacious rooms that have flat-screen TVs and minibars. It also offers amenities like a sauna, small fitness center, restaurant, and vast art collection. The downsides are a charge for breakfast and slow, but free, Wi-Fi. A good alternative could be the Boutique Budapest Hotel. It's a longer walk to the Danube (on the Pest side), but it has a free breakfast and similar amenities.

Buda Castle Fashion Hotel
Uri utca 39

The 25-room Buda Castle Fashion Hotel is in a historic building with modern decor and a terrific location in the heart of Castle Hill, near the Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion. Features include a garden courtyard, a breakfast room, a cellar meeting room, and a business corner. Stylish rooms have flat-screen TVs and minibars; Suites and Duplexes offer living rooms. It's one of the best upscale options on the Buda side of the city, but it may also be worth comparing rates with the Baltazar Budapest.

Soho Hotel
Dohany Utca 64

This three-pearl, 76-room boutique hotel has a fresh, young vibe and colorful, contemporary decor. Located on a quiet side street in the city center, the Soho Boutique Hotel is close to tourist sights and transportation links. A trendy bar is in the lobby, Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and a buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. Be aware however, that Standard Rooms are on the small side, and it might be worth it to upgrade to one of the much larger King Rooms. For a location closer to the river, check out the upscale Boutique Hotel Budapest, which offers a chic bistro and 24-hour room service, for a similar rate.

Royal Park Boutique Hotel
Nefelejcs Utca, 6

The Royal Park Boutique Hotel is a simple, three-pearl property in the developing Erzsebetvaros district. It's virtually opposite Budapest's main Keleti train station and while the out-of-town area is a little gritty, downtown transport connections are great. The 80 rooms have functional, albeit a little tired, designs, but come with flat-screen TVs, safes, and minibars, plus upgraded rooms get Nespresso machines. The downstairs lounge and bar are laid-back, and all rates include a buffet breakfast -- though the small dining space gets crowded and that's the only meal available. Also on the downside, the hotel lacks fitness and meeting facilities. The Regency Suites is more dated but smack-dab in the center.

Boutique Hotel Victoria Budapest
Bem rakpart 11

The mid-range Boutique Hotel Victoria Budapest faces the Danube, offering panoramic views of the river and the Parliament building on the opposite shore. Small shops, restaurants, and bars make the immediate neighborhood pleasant and lively, and many historic attractions are within walking distance. The 27 rooms have sharp, modern decor and rainfall showers. Most have postcard-worthy views from floor-to-ceiling windows, though less expensive rooms in the rear of the hotel lack views and also can't be accessed from the lobby. The hotel also has beautifully restored historic meeting rooms and a small sauna, and serves a free buffet breakfast. Just up the street with similar views, art'otel Budapest has comparable rates and its own restaurant, though no free breakfast.

Hotel Erzsebet City Center
Karolyi utca 11-15

The 123-room Hotel Erzsebet City Center is a clean, budget-friendly retreat in the center of Budapest, near the Great Market Hall and Vaci utca. The hotel offers a contemporary restaurant with Russian cuisine, a gift stand, two meeting rooms, and an Internet corner. Traditionally designed rooms have minibars and writing desks; some have Gellert Hill views. However, rooms and common areas have tube TVs and dated decor. For more modernly decorated rooms, check rates at the competitively priced Novotel Budapest Centrum.
