COSMO Hotel Berlin Mitte
Spittelmarkt 13

The upscale, centrally located Cosmo Hotel has a chic design and 84 spacious rooms, but in-room Wi-Fi comes with a fee. There’s an on-site restaurant that serves local, eco-friendly cuisine and a small fitness center with a range of cardio and weight-training equipment, and a sauna. Located across the street from the Spittelmarkt U-Bahn stop (the trains can be heard in lower-floor rooms), the boutique-style hotel is a 10-minute walk to Museum Island and Alexanderplatz, making it a convenient choice for art and architecture lovers, although there aren’t many restaurants or bars in the immediate area. Travelers who want to be in a neighborhood with more going on should check out the Hotel Indigo Berlin Ku'damm, which also has free Wi-Fi throughout.

Mercure Hotel MOA Berlin
Stephanstr. 41

Located outside central Berlin in the Tiergarten district, this upper-middle-range hotel has a modern vibe in a historic building inside a shopping complex. Spacious and done up in dramatic colors, all 196 rooms feature flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges filled with water, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Note that views in some rooms are limited to neighboring building's walls. Breakfast is charged extra at the on-site restaurant, and there's also a stylish bar with a fireplace, along with several meeting and conference rooms. Travelers could also consider the more centrally located Moevenpick Hotel Berlin, which offers rooms with minibars, an on-site sauna and fitness room, and access to a nearby spa, though rates are higher.

H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz
Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 32A

The H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz is a modern lower-middle-range hotel, a short walk from its namesake historic square. Its 288 rooms, which include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, are small but stylish, and some can sleep up to four people. Bathrooms, with heated floors, rainfall showerheads, and their own speaker system, are the standout here. Another highlight is the large 24-hour self-service cafe. Rates are on par with higher-end mid-range hotels in the area, and guests might want to compare prices with the nearby Circus Hotel and the Hotel Amano.

SO/ Berlin Das Stue
Drakestr. 1

Located in Berlin’s diplomatic district, Das Stue is a boutique, luxury hotel with 79 chic rooms. From the elegant fine-dining restaurant to the cozy library, the hotel is immaculately decorated, offering the crème de la crème of hotel experiences. There is an indoor pool and a beautiful outdoor terrace. The location is a bit far from several of Berlin's tourist attractions, but there are some galleries, restaurants, and shops in the neighborhood. Guests looking for a more convenient location may want to check out Melia Berlin, a modern, upscale hotel near a transportation hub.

Centro Hotel Kurfuerstendamm
Kleiststr. 9-12

Located less than 10 minutes on foot from continental Europe's largest department store and Berlin's biggest shopping boulevard, Ivbergs Premium is ideal for those coming to the city to spend their euros in stores versus on a room. Low on frills, this mid-range property is essentially a place to put one's head at night, and its affordable rates reflects that. The 150 rooms are dated and there's a fee for Wi-Fi, but they do come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and safes. A breakfast is offered for a fee, plus there's an attached restaurant. Many of the city's top sights, including the Berlin Zoo, are easily accessible via public transport. Guests looking for more flair and a kid-friendly spot should check out the nearby Q! Casa Hotel Berlin, which offers stylish rooms and free Wi-Fi for slightly higher prices.

Louisa's Place
Kurfuerstendamm 160

An upscale boutique hotel in the western part of Berlin, Louisa's Place is in a district surrounded by high-end shopping. Its 47 spacious suites have kitchenettes and living rooms, plus most have balconies, but the earth-toned color palette can lean toward gloomy. The historic property has a wood-paneled library and a pool with a delicate mural and small bar, but the fitness center is painted an off-putting mustard yellow. There's a swanky, sixties-era bar, as well as a restaurant that features a tasting menu and a long communal table. Other features include a high-ceilinged spa and a hair salon. It's not within walking distance of top sights, however. The Mandala Hotel has a more central location and also offers large rooms with kitchenettes, but it doesn't have a pool.

The Mandala Hotel
Potsdamer Strasse 3

The Berlin Wall once ran through Potsdamer Platz, where luxury hotels and skyscrapers now tower over a bustling public square. The Mandala Hotel is an independently owned, discreet upscale property in the midst of Berlin's urban jungle, eschewing all the flash outside for understated elegance. Its rooms were formerly apartments and it shows in their huge layouts with kitchenettes and wall-sized windows. The Mandala has an expansive spa on the top floor and an outdoor terrace with views of the city, and also features a two-star Michelin restaurant with an interior garden. The nearby Grand Hyatt Berlin has a pool, bigger staff, and similar amenities, but lacks some of the quiet sophistication found here as well as the enormous rooms.

Mark Apart Hotel
Lietzenburger Str. 82-84

While not in Berlin's central Mitte district, the mid-range Mark Apart Hotel still occupies an enviable spot just a five-minute walk from one of Berlin's most renowned shopping streets, Kurfürstendamm. Common spaces are limited to a large and practical breakfast room and a nondescript lobby, but guest rooms can be quite modern and spacious. The 122 accommodations vary greatly, though, with about half of them fully renamed in late 2017, and most of the others soft-renovated a year earlier. Rooms range from compact singles to spacious doubles that can actually sleep up to four, triples, and apartments with separate bedrooms. In terms of decor, it can feel a bit manufactured, but roomier options in the area can be hard to come by. Travelers looking for more hangout space might consider the SORAT Hotel Ambassador Berlin, which has a nice lobby bar and outdoor seating, though rooms there tend to be smaller and more dated.

Grand Hostel Berlin
Tempelhofer Ufer 14

The 33-room Grand Hostel Berlin is a cut above the average for hostel accommodation, located in an historic Victorian building. It's in the hip neighborhood of Kreuzberg, opposite a picturesque canal and close to the city's nightlife scene. There's a hip library bar just off the lobby, and a restaurant and snack bar on-site too. Bicycles are available to rent for a fee from the front desk. There are private rooms and dorm rooms available, all of which are clean and comfortable with neutral decor.

Adina Apartment Hotel Berlin Hackescher Markt
An der Spandauer Bruecke 11

The upscale, 145-room Adina Apartment Hotel Berlin Hackescher Markt is conveniently located in East Berlin in easy walking distance to a plethora of shops, restaurants, nightlife, public transportation, and sights, such as Museum Island. With artsy, modern style, the hotel features an eclectic collection of furniture and bright accents that come off tasteful against moodier, dark backdrops. Lots of public seating areas and a well-reviewed on-site restaurant and bar give guests spaces to relax. The studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartment-style rooms are spacious, stylish, and packed with amenities, including a fully equipped kitchenette. There’s also a small on-site sauna, two whirlpools that sit under a cool starry ceiling, and a functional fitness area. Guests biggest complaint? Wi-Fi costs extra and the connection is poor. As an alternative, travelers could consider the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin, another design-conscious upscale hotel but one with free Wi-Fi.
