Gran Hotel Havana
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes 647 L'Eixample

The 145-room upscale Silken Gran Havana Hotel, housed in the historic Casa Fredera, is in Eixample, the newer part of the city built in the second half of the 19th century, and today best known for its Gaudi architectural masterpieces, including the Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, and Casa Batilo, and high-end shopping. Located to the right of the Passeig de Gracia -- Eixample's dividing line -- the Silken Gran Hotel Havana features a rooftop pool and bistro with panoramic views, as well as an atrium piano bar. Rooms have a simple elegance, but the furniture has begun to show some wear and tear since the hotel's renovation in 2009. Guests looking for similarly stylish rooms right on Las Ramblas may want to consider the Hotel Espana Ramblas, which also has an outdoor pool.

Bagues

The Hotel Bagues is a luxury boutique property located on Barcelona's famed pedestrian boulevard Las Ramblas in the Gothic Quarter. This 31-room hotel, housed in a mid-19th century palace, was remodeled in 2010 and has an ultra-modern, darkly cool aesthetic. Home to the centuries-old jewelry shop of Art Nouveau jewelers Bagues-Masriera, the hotel has thoughtfully decorated each room and suite with pieces from the collection. Guest rooms are seductively styled with animal prints and dark leather, and some suites have more opulent touches such as gold-leaf detailing. While the standout  feature of this hotel is its location, it also offers a bar and restaurant, and a lovely rooftop terrace with a small pool overlooking the Gothic Quarter. Wi-Fi is free. Be aware that some rooms are quite noisy, and those facing the interior stairwell don't get much light. Guests seeking quiet rooms in the same area -- but not on Las Ramblas -- might want to check out the Mercer Hotel Barcelona.

Hotel Roger De Lluria

The Hotel Roger De Lluria Barcelona is a mid-range property in Eixample with a classic vibe and somewhat dated decor. The 48-room hotel is a minute's walk from Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, a major boulevard dotted with beautiful plazas, and a 20-minute walk to Las Ramblas and the old city. Guest rooms and common areas feel a bit tired, with ornate satin couches and traditional wood furniture, although some have impressive Modernist details. The on-site restaurant and bar serve meals, snacks, and cocktails throughout the day. Breakfast is not included in the room rates, and while it's extensiv,e it's quite pricey. For a more modern aesthetic, guests may want to consider the H10 Universitat Hotel in Eixample, which has a rooftop terrace.

Hesperia Barcelona Fira Suites
Avenida Virgen de Bellvitge, 3

Hesperia Fira Suites is an upscale property with 52 one- and two-bedroom apartments located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, a suburb southwest of Barcelona. The property includes two buildings, separating the suites from the standard hotel facilities in an adjacent tower. Set in a new business district with supermarkets and cafes, the hotel is convenient for business travelers: The metro, which is a few minutes' walk away, reaches downtown Barcelona and Fira Barcelona trade fair facility within 20 to 30 minutes. The location, however, is not ideal for tourists. Apartments are cozy and stylish, with full kitchens and living rooms, and modern decor in soothing earth tones. There's an on-site Mediterranean restaurant, and the hotel offers a free shuttle service downtown and to the airport. Guests preferring to be in Barcelona proper could consider the similarly luxurious apartment hotel Majestic Residence, located in the major shopping and business area of Paseo de Gracia.

Hotel Auto Hogar

Auto Hogar Hotel is a modern mid-range property that offers a convenient location for tourists. The hotel has 169 guest rooms with chic minimalist decor, and many were renovated in  2013 to include city views and flat-screen TVs. The hotel is set on a busy street with lots of cafes and theaters, and there's a metro station within a minute's walk for easy access to Plaza de Espana and other major sights. The on-site Mediterranean restaurant has a street-side patio, and a buffet breakfast is available for a fee. While the hotel feels fresh and modern, it lacks such on-site amenities as a fitness center and pool, and guest rooms at the front of the property receive some street noise. But for the price, this hotel is on par with others in its class in Barcelona.

Oriente Atiram

The Oriente Atiram is a mid-range hotel housed in a 19th-century convent on Las Ramblas, Barcelona's major pedestrian boulevard lined with shops, cafes, and sights. Built in 1846, the 147-room hotel was totally refurbished in 2009. It offers an amazing location, within a short walk of La Boqueria market and various other tourist draws, as well as the Liceu metro station. The buffet breakfast, while not included in the room rate, is served in a stunning atrium area, and the hotel has a casual indoor bar, as well as terrace dining on the street. Guest rooms are minimal and clean, with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning; Ramblas Rooms have balconies overlooking the action on Las Ramblas. The hotel is a good value for its category and location, but lacks a fitness center and high style.

Vincci Gala

The 78-room Vincci Gala Barcelona is an upscale boutique hotel housed in a 19th-century palace in the center of of the city. The modernist art themed hotel packs a graphic punch in the public spaces, but sleek, spacious rooms, some with terraces, are a bit more subdued. Its location is convenient to both Barcelona's Old City and the more modern Eixample neighborhood. While the property is pleasant overall, there have been some reports of street noise in rooms and a nearby nightclub means that noise can continue late into the night.

Grupotel Gravina

The 84-room Grupotel Gravina is a mid-range hotel in an excellent location next to Placa Catalunya and a short walk from Las Ramblas and Passeig de Gracia. It's also conveniently located for taking public transportation. Although it's housed in a historic building, interiors are modern and chic. Rooms are bright and simple, and come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and minibars. Some have small balconies for streetscape views, and some have large furnished terraces. A free breakfast buffet suits most guests, and a light buffet is offered in the afternoon. There's also a bar in the lobby. Travelers who don't need to be so centrally located could check out the similarly priced Silken Diagonal, which has a pool and is within walking distance of Sagrada Familia.

Hotel Derby
Loreto, 21

The 117-room Hotel Derby is a mid-range option in Barcelona’s crowd-free, residential Les Corts neighborhood. The hotel emphasizes an incredible art collection, which includes sculptures, lithographs of work by famous Catalan artists like Joan Miro, and fourth-century mosaics. There are two on-site restaurants and rooms have bathtubs and flat-screen TVs. Unfortunately, the facilities are dated. Travelers may want to instead consider the Hotel Catalonia Avinyo, which has its own on-site pool and gym, or Musik Boutique Hotel.  Both have more stylish rooms right in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella (Old City), and while rack rates are a little higher, both properties often offer deals that put their rates on par with those of Hotel Derby.

Attica 21 Barcelona Mar

The 75-room Attica 21 Barcelona Mar is a modern, mid-range chain hotel near the beach in the Diagonal Mar district of Barcelona. Rooms are bright and boxy, with flat-screen TVs, a minibar, and free Wi-Fi. The lobby incorporates a darker color scheme but channels the same contemporary, geometric style all the way through the lobby bar and restaurant. There is a rooftop pool and sundeck with some nice views of city, though you cannot see the beach from the hotel.
