Galley Bay Resort & Spa
Gray's Farm Main Road

The 98-room, upscale Galley Bay Resort & Spa is a charming adults-only all-inclusive boutique situated along a peaceful beach in Antigua. Simple Caribbean style pervades throughout, including in the beachy rooms and suites featuring air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free minibars, coffeemakers, and patios with sea views. Stone cottages set in the gardens add private plunge pools. The white-sand beach is both the resort’s biggest draw and the location of its four restaurant/bars, as well as non-motorized water sports, regular events, and weekly activities. The waters, though, can be too rough for swimming at times. Other high-end amenities include a freeform pool, serene spa, fitness center, and a rustic rum shack. Note that room service is not available, Wi-Fi can be spotty, and Ismay’s restaurant requires an extra charge. It’s worth comparing rates with the Cocobay Resort, another adults-only all-inclusive hotel with a stunning clifftop setting and three beaches to choose from.

The Verandah Resort & Spa - All Inclusive
Long Bay

The Verandah Resort & Spa is an upper-middle-range all-inclusive resort set on 30 acres of beautiful tropical land on Antigua’s northeastern coast. One of the most family-centric resorts on the island, the property offers plenty of activities for kids, including a kids’ club and a mini-golf course, but it also has designated adult-only areas. Warm, casual suites feature living areas with sleeper sofas, kitchenettes, and balconies. Two-bedroom villas, some with private plunge pools, are ideal for groups. Amenities include three restaurants, three bars, and three pools, plus two white-sand beaches, a gym, tennis courts, and a small spa. While the resort is laid-back and inviting, it lacks a distinct personality. For guests who want a more adult-centric place to take the kids, all-inclusive St. James’s Club and Villas offers a touch more luxury and tranquility.

Pineapple Beach Club Antigua - All Inclusive
Long Bay, St. Phillip's

This upscale all-inclusive on beautiful Long Bay Beach, in the northeast corner of Antigua, offers 180 relaxed rooms in a collection of plantation-style buildings. All rooms offer air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and outdoor space, and some rooms feature stunning sea views. The property has a great white-sand beach with non-motorized water sports, as well as two outdoor pools, a spa, a gym, and tennis courts. There are eight restaurants and bars, ranging from beachside snacks, to Italian fare, to a funky, rustic hilltop barbecue joint. Reservations are required at two of the restaurants. The vibe is distinctly laid-back, and there are touches of local charm through the property. Travelers who want a more luxurious adult-only, all-inclusive resort with similar amenities might consider Galley Bay Resort & Spa -- but rates are higher.

ReefView Apartments
Damzells, Cades Bay Antigua

Despite its British owners, the two-pearl ReefView Apartments might just be among the most authentic places to stay in Antigua. Case in point: the property's discreet location in a quiet local neighborhood near the rainforest and a wild beach. The three hand-built cottages have full kitchens, private patios, and eclectic decor that feels homey, but can look dated. Plumbing and minor maintenance issues aren't unheard of, but for self-sufficient travelers wanting a rustic, local experience, this place is the ticket. The owners are also always available for travel tips and tour booking. For similar (or moderately lower) rates, a prettier beach, and equally Caribbean ambiance, the Catamaran Hotel is about 25 minutes down the road.

Sugar Ridge Resort
Tottenham Park

One of the newer properties on the island, this chic 60-room boutique resort was built in 2009 and feels modern and fresh. What makes the property unique are the sweeping views -- it’s situated high on the side of a hill looking out over the west coast of the island. However, the hillside location means that Sugar Ridge is not on a beach, and guests will have to take a shuttle to get to the sand. The main draws here are the stylish pools, excellent gym, and Aveda spa. Sophisticated rooms have four-poster beds and decks.

Guest house Antigua chiama Italia
Jolly Harbour 00100 Antigua

Antigua Chiama Italia is a pleasant two-and-a-half-pearl guesthouse situated in the popular Jolly Harbour township in Antigua's southwest. The two-bedroom home has a huge waterfront balcony and can be rented in its entirety or by room, each with its own private bathroom. However, sharing kitchen and living space with another couple or group on vacation is not for everyone. Guests have access to a range of activities, restaurants, and small shops within the township, but will need a car or golf cart to reach some. This simple place is a good fit for independent budget travelers, or families looking to save a bit of cash. Those who want a more full-service stay might compare rates with Jolly Castle Hotel, with an on-site restaurant and chic rooms.

Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa
Dickenson Bay

Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa is the epitome of an upscale couples-only, all-inclusive, Caribbean mega-resort. It offers 373 rooms scattered through 27 acres of tropical grounds on stunning Dickenson Bay Beach. Between 25 different room categories, 11 restaurants, and seven bars, guests certainly have lots of options, but they can feel overwhelming. All rooms and suites feature four-poster beds, private terraces, free Wi-Fi, and marble bathrooms. All-inclusive rates cover all restaurants and bars, including house wines and premium spirits. Posh amenities include six pools, a fitness center, and a tranquil spa (treatments are extra). As a couples-only resort, there are plenty of opportunities for romance -- they'll just be shared with a few hundred other couples. Guests looking for a singles- and family-friendly large resort experience with lots of amenities might consider St. James’s Club & Villas.

Blue Waters Antigua
Soldier's Bay

Offering 107 rooms on 17 seafront acres, Blue Waters is an upscale resort with a laid-back atmosphere. Guests can choose from a range of rooms, suites, and high-end villas, all come with private terraces and huge bathrooms, as well as flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. There are three bars and three restaurants, all of which require reservations for dinner. Breakfast-only and all-inclusive packages are offered. High-end amenities include access to three small white-sand beaches, three freshwater pools, a spa, a fitness center, and a tennis court. Parking and Wi-Fi are free, but the latter can be spotty. Guest looking for similar amenities but a more family-centric atmosphere might consider The Verandah Resort & Spa

Buccaneer Beach Club
Dickenson Bay

Located directly on famous Dickenson Bay Beach, the three-pearl Buccaneer Beach Club is ideal for laid-back, independent visits to Antigua, with 16 One-Bedroom Villas and two Two-Bedroom Cottages. All units have pull-out couches, kitchenettes, and balconies or verandahs that look out to the small pool or the tranquil turquoise bay. Amenities include free laundry, free internet, and mountain bikes for rent. While the hotel's restaurant has slow service and mediocre food, the views of the sea are spectacular -- plus a grocery store and plenty of other restaurants are within walking distance. It's a cozy, relaxed experience, while remaining in close proximity to St. John's and other sights. The rooms here can get buggy at night, but they're more up-to-date than at next door Antigua Village.
