Located in downtown Abu Dhabi, the three-and-a-half-pearl Sheraton Khalidiya is a 10-minute walk from Corniche Beach and eight-minute drive from Khalidiya Mall. The 262-room hotel is a large and aging one, with rooms that can feel anonymous and some bathrooms that are in need of refitting. The most impressive feature about the hotel is its rooftop pool terrace, which has panoramic views over the sea and city skyline. Two restaurants and a bar decorated to look like an English pub are on-site, as are a sauna, steam room, and gym -- though they're not open 24/7. Some guests complain of poor service and cleanliness issues in rooms. Guests looking for a more modern place to stay in the area might want to check out Le Royal Meridien, but rates are higher.

The upscale Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort is one of the older hotels clustered near each other in busy downtown Abu Dhabi, and it shows. Despite its branding as a resort, along with the availability of water sports on a lagoon and live entertainment, the hotel feels small and the public spaces are tired next to its more modern competitors. Its 272 rooms benefit somewhat from little balconies, but they're on the small side and have dated decor. On the plus side, its varied dining options are welcome and the rates are attractive. Though it lacks direct beach access, it's worth considering the nearby Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi.
