Bottom Line
The Zurich Marriott Hotel is an upscale, business property set in a towering block overlooking the River Limmat. While it's not the most conveniently located hotel for exploring the city, the train station is nearby and Old Town is walkable. The 264 rooms are sleek and modern with good amenities, though in-room Wi-Fi can be expensive. On-site eating and drinking options are decent (and there's a great martini menu) and unlike many Zurich hotels, the Marriott has a fitness room and sauna. Overall its a solid choice for business travelers, though tourists might want to try somewhere more central, such as the Swiss-themed Hotel Continental.

Towering high-end business hotel with sleek interiors
The Zurich Marriott's main building is a towering edifice of concrete and glass. It was built in 1972 and remains the only Marriott in Switzerland. Despite its age, regular renovations have kept the property in good shape. There's a particularly smart and spacious lobby area with polished marble, wood paneling, and black granite reception desks. While plenty of architectural features allude to the hotel's seventies heritage, the vibe is modern and professional, and it primarily attracts business travelers. Four elevators carry guests to the 19 floors in the main tower, although those staying in the hotel's second building will have to change elevators.
Location
Overlooking River Limmat, a short walk from Zurich's main train station
The hotel is located on the east bank of River Limmat, just north of Zurich city center. The city's quaint Old Town (Altsadt) is just over a 10-minute walk from the hotel. A bridge right by the hotel crosses to the pleasant green space of Platzspitz, where the river splits. From here it's just a few minutes' walk to Zurich's main Hauptbahnhof station, where trains can reach the airport in a short 10-minute journey.
Rooms
Sleekly renovated rooms with premium satellite TV and river views
All of the hotel's 264 rooms benefited from a 2014 renovation and are styled in either warm tones with leaf-patterned carpets or in a darker palette of grays and browns. Both styles of room have sleek and contemporary furniture and clockwork-themed artwork and most have river views. Standard amenities include well-stocked minibars, Nespresso coffeemakers, and large flat-screen TVs with pay-movies and a good choice of free satellite channels (CNN, ESPN, and HBO). Wi-Fi, however, is not included and is quite expensive. Bathrooms are clean and well-maintained and most have glass-walled walk-in showers, though rooms with tubs are available, too.
Features
Two restaurants with Swiss and Thai cuisine plus a martini bar with extensive drink and cigar menus
The Zurich Marriott's expensive breakfast consists of a decent buffet of typical hot and cold items, with an emphasis on Swiss produce. The hotel has two restaurants -- eCHo (serving traditional Swiss fare) and White Elephant (Thai fine-dining). Bar & Lounge 42 is open for light meals and snacks and offers an impressive array of cocktails, including 42 types of martinis. There's also a smoking bar adjacent to the bar and a large variety of cigars are available. Executive Room guests get free access to the business lounge, complete with all-day drinks and snacks. The hotel's third-floor gym, Motion Fitness, has free weights, cardio machines, and a sauna.
