Scene

Bright and welcoming with lush grounds

The typical Zakynthian architecture (cream buildings with terra cotta tile roofs) and lushly gardened grounds set the stage for a lovely, welcoming holiday. Decorated in clean white and warm neutrals, the lobby is bright and inviting, with a table offering travel information, a pool table, and four computers for guest use. Guests stroll the manicured outdoor walkways, which wind through beautiful gardens and lead to the pool area with sun loungers, guest rooms, and game centers. The hotel bar is an elegant space with lots of natural light, cream-colored walls, dark wood chairs, and plenty of white couches. The restaurant is a bright and basic room with simple wood tables, and seating that spills onto the poolside patio.

Location

In a quiet, scenic area a five-minute walk from the beach

One of the best features of the Marelen Hotel is the convenient location, located a 10-minute drive from the Zante Airport, a five-minute walk from the beach, and a short stroll from a bustling shopping and dining street. The property is tucked off of the main road in Kalamaki, and while convenient to local activities, the area itself is fairly quiet and scenic, with rolling countryside and the sea beyond.

Rooms

Simple and clean, but a bit worn, with family options

Guests can choose between a variety of room and board types, such as bed-and-breakfast, self-catering rooms, and half-board options including dinner. The rooms are very basic and some feel a bit worn, but all are bright and clean. Rooms are decorated in bright white and soft neutral tones; all have balconies or terraces, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and tea kettles. Two-bedroom apartments are available, with bunk beds and space for four adults and two kids. There are additional fees for Wi-Fi and air-conditioning use, and guests that prefer more quiet should request rooms away from the pool and water park area.

Features

Plenty of activities for children and adults, including a water park

There is a large pool, adults-only whirlpool surrounded by a rocky cove, children's pool, and water park with slides. A game room has billiards and table tennis, and there is a hard-court tennis court. Evening entertainment for families includes live singers, trivia, karaoke, and other games -- although the enthusiastic style of the young hosts is not for everyone. The lobby offers TVs, video game consoles, and public computers. The on-site restaurant serves Greek dishes as well as continental offerings. Guests who want to venture off the property are close to the beach (with protected turtle area), as well as many local restaurants and shops. Free parking and local buses make it fairly easy for travelers to explore. There are also massages and beauty services available for booking through the front desk.
