Scene

Cozy, bright, and welcoming

A quiet road lined with flowering trees and olive groves leads to the hotel's stone driveway, where the simple white stone facade, red roof, and potted trees make for a charming welcome. Combining the lobby and dining area, the main entrance of the Castelli Hotel is flooded with natural light and decorated in soft neutral tones and wood furnishings. The tidy reception desk is near the front door, while travel information is available at a separate display. There are few brown couches, bookshelves, and a tube TV. Guests can use the public computer and printer at a window-side table, where there are a few snacks for purchase. The dining area -- just simple wood tables topped with cream-colored tablecloths -- hosts the daily buffet breakfast and provides seating for special events. Guests -- mainly couples and families -- stroll the lovely and charmingly rustic hotel grounds, with eucalyptus and olive trees, purple and red flowering plants, and tropical foliage. Sun-seekers gather at the pool deck, just simple white chairs surrounded by lush trees with the sea in the distance.

Location

In a quiet olive grove, but close to the action of Laganas

The location of this property is ideal for guests wanting to relax at the hotel as well as explore the nearby areas of Laganas and Zakynthos. The area's quiet roads are lined with olive groves, trees, and gardens, and offer views of the hills and countryside. Hotel guests are a five-minute walk from the beach and a 10-minute walk from the main strip, with its variety of restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops. Historic Zakynthos town is about a 20-minute drive. The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the airport, taxis and buses are easily accessible, and the front desk can help set up tours and trips around the island.

Rooms

Small, simple, and clean, with balconies

Renovated in 2011, guest rooms are on the smaller side and certainly no-frills, but cheerful with brightly colored bedding and curtains, and warm wooden furnishings. Superior Rooms offer two twin beds that can be pushed together or separated, as well as a mini-fridge, air-conditioning, a tube television, and a small but fairly modern bathroom with stall shower. All include a free daily buffet breakfast, as well as a patio or balcony with views of the pool or the garden. Guests that prefer a bit more space should book one of the larger Family Rooms, which include a separate seating area and multiple beds.

[There is no in-room Wi-FI from what I can tell from the website -- only in the lobby}

Features

Poolside snack bar with Greek small plates, free breakfast with homemade cake

This small, locally owned hotel doesn’t include as many features as some of the larger hotels in the area. However, convenient features like free Wi-Fi in the lobby, a free daily buffet breakfast with homemade olive oil cake, and free parking help to add value. The pool area is fairly small, but clean and well-maintained, offering a separate swimming section for children. The outdoor patio provides lounge chairs as well as seating near the snack bar, which serves Greek-style small plates and drinks. Guests can participate in the weekly barbecue as well as other special events hosted by the hotel.
