Situated right on Zagreb's main square, the historic Hotel Dubrovnik is within walking distance of all the top area attractions, like St. Mark's Church. The three-pearl property has a restaurant that serves American fare, along with a lobby bar and cafe. Other features include a fitness room, 10 meeting rooms, and a business center. Its 222 guest rooms vary; some are located in a newer wing of the hotel and have been more recently renovated, while others are a bit dated, though decor is pleasant and amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Scene

Historic hotel with '80s additions

Mixing old and new, the Hotel Dubrovnik is imbued with history yet offers modern conveniences. It's newer wing, added in 1982, is a stark contrast to the original architecture that dates back to 1929. The glass facade reveals a sleek lobby inside, where frosted glass columns and gleaming floors are illuminated by teal recessed ceiling lights that betray their original era. Wooden wall panelling and brown leather sofas add a masculine touch to the space, while the lobby bar features chic blonde wood seating padded with white cushions for a stylish Scandinavian feel. Elsewhere, the decor takes a more traditional twist, such as in the historic Dubrovnik Cafe, where checkered floors are paired with small black round tables and black club seats. Large windows offer views over the street and main square. Overall, it's a great choice in an excellent location, attracting both leisure tourists seeking to explore the city as well as business travelers.

Location

Central location by the Zagreb's main square and within a 10-minute walk of most top sites

The hotel occupies a prime location right by the city's main square, Ban Jelačić Square. There are plenty of shops and dining options nearby, and top tourist sites like St. Mark's Church, Museum of Broken Relationships, the Croatian Museum of Naïve Art, Mimara, Rooseveltov, the Art Pavilion, and the Zagreb City Museum are all within a 10-minute walk. The main train station is about a 12-minute walk away or six minutes via tram that leaves from the main square. The bus station is about a 12-minute drive or 15 minutes via public transit. Zagreb Airport is a 40-minute drive away, or about 50 minutes via public transportation.

Rooms

Homey rooms with flat-screen TVs and minibars; upper-category rooms have sleeker and more modern bathrooms

Room decor varies, but the spaces are homey and pleasantly adorned, if a bit dated; some are quite small in size. A portion of the rooms have been more recently renovated, so they're fresher and more modern. Color palettes vary from room to room, but include warm salmon and brown hues, teal and cream combinations, and monochrome beige schemes. Patterned bed throws accent white linens, and some of the beds are framed in padded headboards. Contemporary furnishings include desks, nightstands, and wardrobes. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, electronic safes, minibars, and free Wi-Fi, but no tea- or coffee-making facilities. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request. All suites have separate living rooms, and the Crown Suite also adds a terrace overlooking the main square as well as a laptop and printer. Standard bathrooms are a bit dated, covered in tiling and equipped with shower/tub combos or step-in showers, wall-mounted hairdryers, and toiletries. Some can be a bit of a tight squeeze. Higher-category rooms have sleeker bathrooms with more modern fittings.

Features

American restaurant, lobby bar, and cafe, plus plenty of meeting rooms and a business center

There are two on-site dining options here: the American Steak & Grill House, which serves classic American fare and barbecue, and the Dubrovnik Cafe, offering coffee and other beverages accompanied by cakes and pastries. There's also a pleasant lobby bar for cocktails by the entrance. Breakfast is available for an added charge, and the hotel offers room service.

The hotel caters to business travelers with 10 meeting rooms as well as a business center, plus free Wi-Fi throughout. Other amenities include a fitness room equipped with just a handful of dated machines. An on-site parking lot is a nice perk, but it costs extra.
