Casa Tía Micha

Housed in an historic colonial-style building, Casa Tia Micha is a charming boutique hotel packed with character. Guests enter through a carved wooden door off the street into a short corridor with vintage framed black- and-white family photographs, antique mirror, and old-fashioned desk on the one side and glassed wooden bookshelves (with Mexican books and trinkets on display) on the other side. The exterior of the hotel is typically Mexican with different brightly colored walls and doors. Expect bright yellow walls with blue doors and light pink walls with turquoise doors. The corridors are filled with plants that line the walkways and are secured on the walls. Mexican-themed decor can be found throughout the hotel, with collections of hand-made crosses and butterflies decorating the walls. The outdoor courtyard, where breakfast is served, is a lovely area which is again packed with potted plants (big and small) and large palm trees providing shade. Guests are mostly couples looking for a quiet and secluded space, with a few family-travelers passing through.

Casa Tia Micha is centrally located in Valladolid, within walking distance to most of the city's action. There are a handful of restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops within close walking distance of the hotel. There's also a public parking lot directly opposite the hotel. Cenote Zaci, the freshwater underground cenote with landscaped gardens and restaurant, is a three-minute walk away. The intimate museum of Casa de los Venados is a four-minute walk from the hotel. The Cathedral of San Gervasio is five minutes on foot and the Convent de San Bernardino de Siena is a seven-minute drive away. Cenotes Dzitnup (AKA The Blue Cave) is a 16-minute drive out of town. The main Valladolid Bus Stop is a seven-minute drive away. Chichen Itza International Airport is just under an hour's drive from the hotel.

The five rooms at Casa Tia Micha are charming with colonial-style decor. Each of the rooms varies slightly in decor, though all feature white walls, dark-wooden exposed beams on the ceiling, dark wooden rustic furniture, tiled flooring, and old-fashioned artwork. Some rooms have colorful patterned details painted on the walls. The Quadruple Room with two double beds, is for family-travelers while the Honeymoon Suite and Suite Colonial Deluxe are ideal for couples looking for a romantic escape. The Suite Colonial Deluxe includes an in-room hot tub. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, dining areas, tea- and coffee-making facilities, dressing tables, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms feature either walk-in showers and tubs or just walk-in showers with hairdryers and Vert de Terres toiletries. Bathrobes and slippers are provided.

This small and cozy boutique hotel offers little in the way of features, and most guests just use it as a central base to explore the area. The hotel serves a free traditional breakfast in the sunny courtyard each morning, including fresh fruit juice, scrambled eggs, black beans, Yucatan Tamales, pastries, and Mexican coffee. Breakfast can also be served in guest rooms. The hotel can also help organize gastronomical and cultural tours for guests at an additional cost upon request. Wi-Fi throughout the property and on-site parking is free. Laundry service is offered for an additional fee. While there is no on-site swimming pool, guests can make use of the small swimming pool and hot tub at sister hotel, Hotel Casa Marlene, a few doors down.
