The hotel is conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from York’s main attractions and pubs. It manages to provide a tapas-style restaurant and bar and gym to keep guests entertained on-site. While the breakfast costs a fee, it’s reportedly tasty, especially if the service is up-to-par that day. The 101 rooms are stylishly quirky with top-notch amenities like kettles, rainfall showers, and free minibars, but are somewhat small and some guests experience bar noise. Scene
Chic chain hotel with a trendy restaurant and a clientele of couples
Hotel Indigo York may have the closest thing to a luxurious design for a chain brand (IHG) hotel in York. This boutique property is packed with personality from the moment guests enter the brick building. The lobby has dizzying black and white cubed-designed floors that stand out against the oak-heavy furniture and plush turquoise chairs of the sitting area. The restaurant is cozy with vintage wooden chairs, oak floors, and red booths. And yet, visitors can’t miss the bold and sassy decorative elements like colorful artwork of farm animals and hanging bulbs in glass boxes. Overall, the hotel sets itself apart in design that mostly attracts couples on a chic getaway.
Location
About a 10-minute walk to most of York's major attractions
Hotel Indigo York is situated in Walmgate, known as a foodie district of York, just a 10-minute walk from most of the city’s major tourist attractions, like Clifford’s Tower. The Jorvik Viking Center and York Shambles take seven minutes to reach on foot. For an open-air shopping experience, the Coppergate Shopping Center is a six-minute walk away. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs on surrounding streets and a bus stop that’s a three-minute walk from the property. It’s about an hours’ drive to the Leeds-Bradford Airport.
Rooms
Cozy rooms with stylish decor, free minibars, and kettles
The 101 rooms at Hotel Indigo York are clean and cozy, and most of all, chic in design from the oak floors and furniture to cocoa-colored decor. Rooms vary slightly in design but many feature thoughtful touches in leather headboards, cool displays of mirrors, or a hodgepodge of picture frames. We particularly like the lampshades that feature a 16th century census of the York area. While some rooms may feel small to some, they have useful amenities that include flat-screen Samsung smart TVs, individually-controlled air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, safes, kettles, and free minibars filled with chocolates, snacks, and bottled water. Bathrooms are similarly posh with star-design tiles in the shower/tub combos. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Keep in mind that though most rooms are quiet, those near the next-door bar may be subjected to occasional bothersome noise.
