Bottom Line

The four-pearl Grand Geneva Resort is the jewel in the crown of Lake Geneva's resorts. It was
originally built in 1968 as a Playboy Resort. After a period of decline in
the 1980's, the property was restored and polished back to its original luster.
The resort has expansive grounds, 355 guest rooms, and provides fancy
amenities like riding
stables, a separate spa building, water park, full-size indoor basketball and tennis
courts, and a climbing-wall. The main building is surrounded by two 18-hole
golf courses, and a lake surrounds the backlands of the property. The location
is ideal for leisure travelers and for business conferences and meetings.

Scene

Expansive scenic grounds with range of facilities, 1960s architecture

The
resort sits on a large parcel of land, and the location is ideal for people who
want to get away and relax. The resort’s business conferences and meeting rooms
also bring in a good number of guests on business. There is a large meeting
complex with boardrooms, ballrooms, and smaller meeting spaces. The
original lodge dates back to 1968. The whole resort is beautiful from the golfcourses to the rooms, they have done a great job of creating a classy resort.
The complex was once the Playboy Resort of Lake Geneva, and the Bunnies old
dorm is still on the grounds along with all of the other original structures
including the ski chalet. The common areas of the main building have
swanky-cool late 1960's architecture with preppy club furniture. The walls are
rustic-chic with river stones and mortar. Large potted plants enhance the wide, dimly lit hallways.

Location

Surrounded by rolling Wisconsin hillsides, closest to Chicago’s O’ Hare and Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International airports

With
so many amenities at-hand, visitors of this resort are unlikely to leave the property -- the resort is the main attraction. Vast
scenic vistas and the fresh Wisconsin air surround it. There's a resort
shuttle that will bring guests to different areas of the property, and though
most buildings are spread out, they are within walking distance. For nature
enthusiasts, the White River State Trail is a 10-minute drive away. Downtown is
also just a little less than 10-minutes away, as is Lake Geneva, where hikers
can walk around Geneva Lake Shore Path and go on a walking tour of historic
mansion houses. Chicago
O' Hare airport is 65 miles and about a 90-minute drive away, while
Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport is 45-miles away, and
approximately an hour's drive. Parking at the resort is free.

Rooms

Clean, but kidn of dull, simple elegance

The
Grand Geneva offers 355 guest rooms: Deluxe, Junior, King, Executive, Grand,
and Premiere Suites. All of which are exceptionally clean, elegant, and simple, if not a little dull.
They come with coffee and tea makers, flat-screen TVs, irons and ironing
boards, and mini-fridges stocked with free bottled waters. Rooms also have private
outdoor balconies with patio furniture and views of the resort's lake and golf
courses. Bathrooms include separate tubs and showers, or shower and tub combos,
WELL spa toiletries, and hairdryers. In the standard Deluxe Rooms, beautiful
wood countertops add a touch of class and cosmopolitan look. Bathrooms in the
Premiere Suites are larger and have experience showers with four showerheads,
and separate tubs. Bathrooms also feature TVs imbedded in the bathroom mirror, and a marble top vanity. The Executive and Grand suites have separate living and
sleeping areas, fireplaces, sitting chairs, dining table with chairs, and wet
bars.

Features

Full range of facilities from meeting complex to private runway

The Grand Geneva Resort is full of amenities -- including a
private runway -- across a large area of land. And with so much to do in on
its property, the resort has its own shuttle going from building to building,
golf course, and horse stables. It's also a hot spot for skiing. With its own
snowmaking capabilities, the resort offers on-site winter activities include
downhill skiing and snowboarding. In the warmer months, visitors head over to
the two golf courses, The Brute and The Highlands -- both offer 18-holes. The fitness center is equally impressive, and has one 35-foot nine-station climbing wall, basketball, volleyball, two indoor, and six outdoor
tennis courts, plus a studio for yoga and aerobic classes. After
a long workout and well-spent days at the slopes, the WELL spa is a welcomed
amenity. Services here include full body treatments from body scrubs to
facials. Visitors will also find the second indoor pool and a sauna. The indoor
Moose Mountain Falls water park at Timber Ridge Lodge is off to the edge of the
resort, and admission is not included in the room rate. The stables are even
further back and offers horseback riding and carriage rides. There
are three semi-formal dining options on-site and additional spots for quick fixes dotting
the property. The Grand Café is perhaps the most family-friendly and
casual of the options, while Ristorante Brissago is the most formal spot with
Italian fare. The Geneva Chophouse has a mixed scene, though it's only open
for dinner. For quick fixes, Cafe Gelato offers pastries and coffee throughout
the day.
