Scene

A historic hotel with modern Southwest character

Built in 1930 and designed by famed Southwest architect Mary Colter, this former Fred Harvey
hotel was the last built by the Santa Fe Railroad. Restored in the 1990s, it is now a historic landmark with local art and bright colors throughout.
Beams are painted a pale turquoise and ceilings range from lovely wood to
red, orange, yellow, and blue paint. Rounded archways, wood cabinets, and
stained glass add to the antique yet modern look, and unique feeling. Photographs of famous visitors line the hallways and there are local
art exhibits within the hotel; there are no elevators, though. Free coffee,
tea, and hot chocolate are available in the gift shop in the morning and free
ice water and apples are offered in the afternoon. The Arizona Daily Sun newspaper is free at the front desk, but other papers cost a fee. Outside, there is a lovely green terrace with seating and a few
fountains in addition to a large backyard where guests can bring pets. The artistic and architectural features here draw guests who are interested in design as well as Southwestern history.

Location

Next to Winslow Amtrak Station, within walking distance of attractions, shops, and restaurants

La Posada Hotel resides on historic Route
66 and is next to the Winslow Amtrak station. Downtown Winslow and the Old Trails Historic Museum are just a five-minute walk away, while Winslow City Park is a 10-minute walk. Guests are also within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Homolovi State Park is a seven-minutes drive, North Park Plaza Shopping Center can be reached in six minutes. Arizona’s
popular Petrified Forest National Park is about 50 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Large yet cozy and warm, with distinctively Southwest features

Rooms at La Posada Hotel are big yet cozy with clay-colored tile or wood floors, gorgeous wood or metal bed frames, brightly colored or metallic art, and warm terra cotta-shaded paint. Some
include cozy seating areas with leather couches, balconies overlooking the lawns, or fireplaces. All have TVs -- many are flat-screen. Bathrooms stand out with beautiful colored tiles, reflecting the hotel's Southwestern crafts-oriented aesthetic; however some are showing wear and tear, and the raised jetted tubs in some bathrooms can be difficult to get into and out of. Mini-fridges are available upon request and guests
can use the hotel kitchen refrigerator if needed. There are no phones in
the rooms and even though there is free Wi-Fi, the signal may be weak or
non-existent depending on a room's distance from the lobby. Some guests have been disturbed by loud train noise.

Features

Excellent on-site restaurant, gift shop, and art galleries

The standout feature of La Posada Hotel
is the award-winning restaurant and bar, The Turquoise Room. Serving modern
Southwestern cuisine, this restaurant receives high praise from guests and is
one of the favorites of Winslow. There's a theater for live music, business
center with a fax machine and printer, and a library. The hotel has a pet-friendly policy; however, pets are not allowed in the restaurant. The on-site
gift shop is large and includes everything from books to art to jewelry while The Tina Mion Museum and Winslow Arts Trust Exhibit Room offer exceptional local art and a
self-guided tour; booklets for the tour cost a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout, though inconsistent in some rooms.
