Scene
Charming Victorian-style boutique hotel with cozy interiors and a romantic atmosphere
First opened in 1869 and remodeled several times over the years, the historic Wentworth has a quaint, romantic atmosphere that draws couples year-round. Its 61 rooms are housed in several Queen Anne-style buildings on either side of Main Street, and although each section has its own unique style and features, the property has lovely cozy interiors throughout. Some elements verge on dated -- such as the moss-green carpets and the pastel-color chairs -- but the style overall is cute and homey. Housed in the Main Inn building, the lobby feels warm and inviting, with wooden floors, an open fireplace, Persian-style rugs in red hues, and several seating clusters placed along the large bay windows. Located off the lobby, the small sun room with a pool table, a fireplace, and some couches is a favorite among guests on colder days. The bar is cozy but quiet, with weekly piano and jazz nights and a good selection of drinks. The restaurant has a similar vibe and decor style, with handsome wood floors, a fireplace, and a neutral color palette.
Location
In central Jackson, adjacent to a golf course and near Jackson Falls
The Wentworth is centrally located in picturesque Jackson, adjacent to an 18-hole golf course and within walking distance of pretty Jackson Falls, the town’s cute covered bridge, and a handful of restaurants, bars and shops. A cross-country ski area can be found right by the hotel, and Crawford Notch State Park is an easy drive away. Attitash Mountain Resort can be reached in about 10 minutes, while Black Mountain and Story Land amusement park are each just five minutes’ drive from the hotel. The location a 25-minute drive from scenic Kancamagus Highway allows for easy access to the rest of the White Mountains region.
Rooms
Quaint, old inn-style rooms, many with outdoor hot tubs
The hotel has 61 rooms ranging from cozy Standard Rooms with dated carpets, to elegant suites with large jetted tubs and separate seating areas. All are decorated in a charming old inn style, with neutral tones and a few wine-color accents, and all have large windows overlooking the grounds. Classic touches such as tufted chairs, oriental-style rugs, and heavy drapes are in line with the property’s historic atmosphere, but some may find the style a little stuffy. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, quality mattresses (last replaced in March 2015), DVD players, free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers, and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. All but the Main Inn and a few Fairlawn Cottage units have working gas fireplaces, outdoor hot tubs, and king-size sleigh or four-poster beds; a few also have single sofa beds. Groups and larger families seeking some privacy can book the Amster Cottage, which has four rooms overlooking a private courtyard with an eight-person outdoor hot tub and a sauna. These rooms can also be booked individually. The property also owns several two- and three-bedroom condos complete with kitchens, living rooms, washer/dryers, and gas or wood fireplaces.
