Some rooms look dated
Decor throughout the hotel is tired
Mountain Club on Loon is a mid-range, somewhat dated resort located in the White Mountain National Forest. It's a nice getaway for travelers looking for scenic views and outdoor adventure any time of the year, but it's especially popular with families during the ski season. While the decor in some of the 117 units can be drab, the property's location on the mountain and the amenities are hard to beat for the area. There are ski trails right in the hotel's backyard, and the room rate includes use of the hotel's sauna, steam room, and whirlpool. Spa treatments are also available for an extra fee. The hotel offers rooms and suites, which are individually-owned in the style of timeshares. Many of the units could use updates; some have kitchens and balconies.
Scene
Five-story ski resort popular with families, business guests, and skiers
The ski resort is popular year round with companies hosting their corporate events, and visitors looking to get away from nearby Boston. Winter is the busiest time of year, as the resort fills up with families and groups of skiers. The property is spread out over picturesque grounds: in the summer, the hillsides are lined with trees, and the vast lawn is green. In the winter, everything is covered in white powder. The lobby is bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows in the front. While the decor is largely nondescript, there are definitely some lodge-like details, including lots of wooden paneling, faux antler wall sconces, a large glass fireplace, leather sofas, and tables holding board games.
Location
At the base of Loon Mountain, with plenty of natural scenery
Mountain Club On Loon is built right at the base of Loon Mountain, so it's located in White Mountain National Forest, and surrounded by nature. There is a nearby village of shops and restaurants, so it's not completely remote, but it is quiet. This is the only ski resort directly off Highway 93, making it a popular destination for skiers and tourists from Boston. Boston is about a two-and-a-half hour drive away.
Rooms
Individually-owned rooms and suites that are a bit dated
Each of the rooms and suites at Mountain Club on Loon is individually-owned, which means decor and amenities vary from one accommodation to the next. Overall, units look a little dated, but are clean. The smallest room sleeps two people while the largest suite can sleep 10 (with Murphy beds). Studios and suites have full kitchens, while the best rooms include private balconies and whirlpool tubs. Views of the property's grounds and Loon Mountain are lovely.
Features
The sauna, steam room, and whirlpool are free to use, while access to the spa is available for an additional fee
The abundant features are what make this ski property stand out. The room rate includes use of the sauna, steam room, whirlpool, indoor lap pool, and heated outdoor pool. During the winter, a ski school, tube run, and skating rink offer fun activities. A climbing wall, a spa, and a beauty shop are open year round. Kids under 12 ride the gondola lift for free. The fitness center has separate rooms for Cybex cardio machines and the strength-training equipment. A basketball court and squash court are also available. One on-site restaurant offers casual dining, while another offers breakfast made with local ingredients (it's open for dinner in the winter, as well).A coin-operated washer and dryer, free parking, and free Wi-Fi round out the features at the Mountain Club on Loon.
