Colonial Motel

This small, family-owned motel is housed in a cute, low L-shaped white-and-blue building a little set back from White Mountain Highway. Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, and a small fire pit invite guests to relax and enjoy the outdoors, while a covered area with a grill and some metal tables is another perk. Three friendly resident dogs can be seen running around or curled up indoors on colder days. The lobby is simple but homey, with wooden floors, white wainscoting, beige walls, and a red front desk. A charming ancient kitchen stove serves as the drinks table, where freshly brewed coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are offered throughout the day. Overall, the property is basic and a little dated, but rates are low and rooms clean and well-equipped. 

The motel is located right on White Mountain Highway/Route 302, the main thoroughfare in the area. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby, and central North Conway is just a short walk away. The location right on the road allows for easy driving access to several mountain and ski resorts -- including Cranmore Mountain, Great Glen Trails, Shawnee Peak, and Attitash Mountain Resort -- as well as to golf courses and other outdoor activities. North Conway Station is located a 10-minute walk away, or two minutes by car. 

The Colonial Motel has 26 clean, homey rooms overlooking either the grounds and the highway, or the pool and the mountains beyond. Decor is basic and dated throughout, with dark brown carpets, simple dark wood furniture, and generic prints of nearby mountains; the old-fashioned quilts with geometrical shapes or flowers may strike some as homey, however. In-room amenities include mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning, but rooms lack microwaves and electric kettles. Bathrooms are typical for a two-pearl motel, with either showers or shower/tub combos, and limited toiletries in small sachets. Some rooms have double jetted tubs by the bed. Family Suites have a master room with a king-size bed, and a second room with two double beds. Children under 10 stay free of charge. 

The property is light on amenities, and the outdoor pool is the highlight here. Located in the back of the property in a fenced-off area, the pool is a safe, fun place for kids. There are several plastic loungers and chairs around it, as well as a picnic table. Additionally, the hotel has a barbecue area with a few tables and chairs. A small fire pit a little farther away form the central part of the property is great for 'smores nights with the kids and for quiet nights with friends. Free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available throughout the day in the lobby, and freshly backed cookies are offered once a week. This motel also features free Wi-Fi and free on-site parking, as well as discounted rates for breakfast at local restaurants, and discounted passes for nearby mountain resorts. Dogs are allowed for a daily fee.
