The 222-room Georgetown Suites is a mid-range, all-suite hotel that was originally built as an apartment complex in the '80s. A great value in an otherwise pricey neighborhood, this property has large rooms with full kitchens, free breakfasts, and a fitness center. While it doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that some of its neighbors do, the price is hard to beat. Convenient on-site amenities include a rooftop sundeck with lounge chairs, a business center, laundry room, and fitness center. Many shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. For a more stylish option that’s closer to the metro and tourist
attractions, consider the nearby Avenue Suites Georgetown, though prices tend to be higher.
Scene
A mid-range, all-suites hotel in a converted Georgetown apartment complex
Converted into a hotel in the early '90s, Georgetown Suites has
222 apartment-style suites housed within two buildings. The main building sits
right next to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, which runs through the heart of
historic Georgetown. The hotel entrance is tucked
between two brick office buildings at the back of a shared courtyard, so it
isn’t immediately visible from the street, but it's peaceful. The main floor is home to a small lobby and a
spacious dining room. Both are decorated in lime green and blue textiles, with funky
patterned carpeting, fake plants, and canvas photographs of D.C. outdoor scenes. Overall, the decor
has a modern-meets-retro feel. Most of
the clientele here are families, followed by couples and business travelers.
Location
On the east side of Georgetown, near the city's best shopping and restaurants, but farther from main tourist sights
This property is located on the edge of the wealthy, historic
neighborhood of Georgetown. Cobblestone streets, charming rows of brightly
colored brick rowhouses, and the tree-lined C&O Canal make Georgetown one
of the most beautiful areas of the city. It's also just a few minutes' walk
from the heart of Georgetown's high-end shops and restaurants. The downside of
Georgetown is that it’s not near D.C.'s fast and efficient Metro subway
system.- 10-minute drive to Reagan National Airport
Rooms
A variety of large suites with full kitchens and iPod stereos; some with whirlpool tubs
The hotel has
222 suites that range from 500-square-foot studios to sprawling six-person Townhouse
Suites with two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. The hotel underwent renovations in 2014 and most of the suites got a facelift, but a few are still waiting on updated kitchens, furniture, and wallpaper. Rooms have a combination of twin,
queen, or king beds, and pullout sofa beds. All suites include a full kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave,
dishwasher, coffeemaker, and utensils. Other amenities include bathrobes,
flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and iPod stereos. Select rooms come with whirlpool tubs,
harbor views, and views of historic Georgetown. The hotel also has a huge Two-Bedroom with
Den Penthouse, which has two levels, a den, two bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a
deck, and views of the Kennedy Center and Georgetown waterfront. Style-wise, renovated suites have a mix of off-white and brown walls, plus a wallpapered
accent wall covered in starry patterns of dots and lines. Renovated rooms
also have updated kitchens with granite countertops. The furniture is
contemporary, with a subtle nod to mid-century style.
Features
Fitness center, business center, rooftop patio, and free Wi-Fi
Georgetown Suites has all the basics for an extended stay: a
modest fitness center, 24-hour business center, guest laundry room, and an
underground parking garage (rates are
about average for D.C.). One highlight of the property is a rooftop sundeck complete with lounge chairs. Other perks include a free continental breakfast
buffet, free Wi-Fi, dining coupons to nearby restaurants, and same-day
dry-cleaning services. There is no full restaurant on-site.
