Scene
An unusually modern Comfort Inn housed within a 1920s building
This contemporary 100-room hotel
is housed inside an eight-floor brick building erected in 1924, giving it a classic-meets-modern
vibe. From
the outside, the building could almost be mistaken for a non-chain hotel if it
weren't for the bright blue Comfort Inn awning out front. This Comfort Inn
doesn't deviate much from the standard big brand style (or lack thereof);
however, a 2011 makeover has this spot looking surprisingly attractive inside. A brief walk through two glass doors (decorated
with "Welcome to Washington, D.C." doormats) brings guests to a clean
and contemporary lobby with chevron flooring and a wooden reception desk. At
the end of the lobby is a cozy sitting room with modern patterned chairs, large
ottomans, and a yellow wall filled with abstract canvases. In 2014 and 2015 the hotel increased the speed of the
elevators, installed DirectTV, and refurbished the bathroom
tiles, linens, and wallpaper. The breakfast area is on the
small side and can get congested, and some guests have complained of
hearing street noise from rooms on the lower floors. Ask for a room higher up and away from the elevators (which can also be noisy).
Location
Central downtown location near restaurants, subways, and the Convention Center
The Comfort Inn has a good location for business travelers; it is situated four blocks from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in a
downtown neighborhood filled with office buildings and apartment complexes. Plenty
of cafes, restaurants, bars, and two subway stations are less than a 10-minute
walk away. Major tourist attractions like the National Mall, White House, and
Smithsonian museums are less than 10 minutes away by taxi.- Eight-minute walk to the Convention Center
Rooms
Small and simple rooms with free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers
Most of the
rooms at this Comfort Inn are small and simple, with minimalist wooden
furniture, brown and beige striped carpets, and white walls. Generic photography of D.C. landmarks decorates
the walls. Every room includes a mini-fridge, work desk, iPod stereo,
flat-screen cable TV, free Wi-Fi, and a coffeemaker. Guests can choose from
three room types: a King Bed Guestroom, Double Bed Guestroom or a Corner King
Bed Guestroom (which is slightly larger and offers views of downtown). Rooms do
not include microwaves, but there’s one available for guests in the hotel’s 24-hour
convenience store.
Features
Free breakfast buffet, convenience store, business center, and fitness center

24-hour business center. Guests can also take advantage of free newspapers and
refreshments in the lobby, property-wide Wi-Fi, a coin-operated laundry room, dry
cleaning services, and an activity desk that sells tickets for local
attractions. Valet-only parking is available for a daily fee.
