Bottom Line

In an exceptionally scenic position on a cliff overlooking the sea, The Park Hotel is located on the outskirts of
the historic town of Tenby. This quiet, mid-range property updated their lobby, restaurant, and bar/lounge in 2016, replacing ornate, old-fashioned seating and wallpaper with much more contemporary furnishings in a subdued color palette. The beach is just five-minutes away on foot, though the path is a bit steep. But guests can also take a dip in the outdoor heated swimming pool or sunbathe on a terrace with sea views. Renovated rooms have chic, streamlined decor, but rooms yet to be renovated have a traditional, somewhat fussy look. Still, all 42 rooms have modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, and some have sea views. Compared to other three-pearl hotels in the area, The Park Hotel offers good
value for the money. Travelers looking for a property with a spa could try the recently renovated Heywood Spa Hotel.

Scene

A peaceful, family-run property popular with tour groups and families

In 2016, The Park Hotel swapped a fussy red-and-cream color scheme for a more streamlined look. Despite the update, the hotel retains a few period touches, such as heavy drapes and the occasional oil painting, which can feel grandmotherly or charming depending on perspective. Another dated detail is the elevator, which is old and small, and quickly fills up with just two people and luggage. There's also a large, pleasant landscaped
garden with a terrace overlooking the sea and plenty of comfortable chairs and
sun loungers to enjoy the view. The Park Hotel is especially popular with older travelers, especially those on tour groups, as well as families.

Location

Superb cliff-top location not far from Tenby town center

The Park Hotel has a superb
cliff-top location overlooking the north beach and Tenby’s harbor. On one side
it’s surrounded by views of the sea and beaches. The public beach is just a five-minute walk from the hotel via a scenic private path along the cliff, which
can be steep in places. There are no shops or restaurants in the surrounding blocks, but
Tenby town is easily reachable on foot, just a 10-minute walk away. The island
of Caldey is visible from here and can be reached by ferry. The town of
Pembroke and its historic castle are 21 minutes away by road, and it’s a
48-minute drive to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Cardiff Airport is a little under two hours away by car.

Rooms

Renovated rooms with chic decor, but some yet to be updated

Rooms at The Park Hotel are divided into two types: Older rooms with a traditional decor and renovated rooms with a more contemporary look. The older rooms have an orange-and-yellow palette with fleur-de-lis-printed headboards and brocade trim around the doors and framed pictures. Renovated rooms are far more sleek, with plaid bedding, gray headboards, and streamlined wood furniture. Superior Rooms are renovated, and some have sea views, but they vary in size, so it helps to request one of the larger rooms when booking. Family Rooms are the most spacious, with a
double and a twin bed, but they have older decor. Standard Rooms also have yet to be renovated, and they can be small and unpleasant because
of uncomfortable beds and a lack of black-out blinds. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos and toiletries, but showers can have low water pressure. All
the guest rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and tea- and
coffee-making facilities. Rooms close to the elevator are not the
quietest and are best avoided.

Features

On-site restaurant, swimming pool, free parking, and free Wi-Fi

A
full English-style breakfast is included in the room rate at the Park Hotel, and
the on-site restaurant also serves lunch and dinner. There’s a 40-foot outdoor
heated swimming pool which is open from May to September. The free parking on
offer here is a bonus because there’s no free parking in the town center. There's also free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel. The North Cliff Suite has a
bar and dance floor and can be rented out for weddings and other events.
Limited room service is also available.
