Bottom Line

The 46-room St Brides Spa Hotel is an upscale property overlooking the Saundersfoot Harbor in Wales. The facade and decor in some areas is plain, while the restaurant and rooms have a pleasant, nautical vibe. The location is within walking distance of most of Saundersfoot, though guests will need a car to get to Tenby. Contemporary rooms are a good size, with bathrooms that have large bathtubs and separate showers. There is a full-service spa with many services (though the infinity pool is pretty small) and a well-reviewed restaurant overlooking the water. For a more affordable stay, consider the Heywood Spa Hotel, though rooms aren't as modern and it's not along the water.

Scene

A mix of bland and charming nautical decor

This four-pearl property is best suited to adults looking for a place to relax. The waterfront location and fact that children under 16 aren't allowed in the spa create a peaceful atmosphere that attracts mostly older couples. Some spaces of the property aren't very impressive, including the facade with light gray walls and dark grey roofing that has several dormers jutting out, as well as the small lobby outfitted in mostly beige or brown. However, the rooms and restaurant have an attractive nautical theme, featuring pieces of driftwood, ocean-themed artwork, and throw pillows with lighthouse motifs. The real standout, however, are the widespread views of Saundersfoot Bay, particularly from the outdoor terrace with wooden tables and chairs and infinity pool at the spa.

Location

Most of the town is within walking distance

St Brides Spa Hotel is located in the town of Saundersfoot in southwest Wales, overlooking the Saundersfoot Harbor. The hotel isn't located in the downtown area but rather in a residential area above it, though guests will only have to walk a short ways to get to the town attractions. The Reptile Experience, a hands-on interactive reptile education center, is a two-minute walk away. Sea Taxi, an amphibious sightseeing tour that lets patrons visit the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park by sea, is a five-minute walk away. Chobbles Sweet Shoppe (a six-minute walk) and Pembrokeshire Brewing Company (a nine-minute walk) are close by for foodies. Guests will need a car to get to Tenby (a nine-minute drive) or the Saundersfoot train station (a seven-minute drive).

Rooms

Splurge on a sea view room

The St Brides Spa Hotel has 46 rooms, 20 that have a sea view and balcony. The sea view rooms are definitely worth paying a little extra, as the views over the harbor are stunning. Rooms are all decorated in varying shades of grey and beige, with touches of dark blue and blonde wood to complete the nautical theme. The art is all ocean-themed, and decorate objects such as fish, birds, or vases filled with pebbles add homey touches. All rooms have large flat-screen TVs with DVD players, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, tea- and coffee-making facilities, safes, and irons and ironing boards. Beige bathrooms are generally quite large and feature walk-in showers and separate bathtubs. Hairdryers, bathrobes, and slippers are provided, plus the Voya toiletries are whimsically placed on a seashell. Six apartments are also available, which have living areas and fully equipped kitchens.

Features

Extensive spa services with a free 90-minute session for all adult guests

The biggest selling point of this hotel is its extensive spa services. There is an outside infinity hydrotherapy pool that overlooks the harbor (though it is small), a thermal suite, a salt infusion room, a sensation shower, an aroma steam room, an herbal rock sauna, and an ice fountain. All guests who have booked a room get a free 90-minute session in the spa. Caveat: no one under the age of 16 is allowed in the spa. A small gym is also available. There is also a restaurant in the hotel called the Cliff Restaurant, which has a wall facing the harbor with floor-to-ceiling windows. Food generally receives positive reviews and all rates include a quality breakfast. There is also a large bar for a variety of drinks.Other amenities of the hotel include free parking, room service, meeting rooms, and a business center with internet access.
