Premier Inn
Llantrisant is a budget-friendly hotel with all the predictable familiarity of
the chain. While the surroundings are hardly picturesque, it's well-positioned
for easy road access to the M4, and is half an hour from Cardiff and Brecon Beacons. The 51 rooms are well-maintained, with the chain's signature extra-comfy beds, though some rooms are prone to traffic noise. Free Wi-Fi and parking are pluses, and there's a pleasant on-site restaurant that serves an all-you-can eat breakfast, for a fee. Rates here can jump during busy times, and travelers might want to compare them with the nearby Vale Resort, which offers superior accommodations often at similar prices.
Scene
Familiar and predictable chain hotel typical of the Premier brand
Most travelers know
what to expect from a Premier Inn, and the Premier Inn Llantrisant offers no deviation from
the cozy familiarity of this budget hotel chain. Opened in 2009, the property
is built from yellow brick and natural stone, surrounded by an
ample-size car park. Inside guests will find the Premier's signature palette of purples, and all
the signage and marketing that goes with the brand. An elevator delivers guests up to one of
two floors above ground, while hallways and public areas are clean and
well-maintained. The vibe is functional and predictable -- there's no surprises, but the Premier Inn Llantrisant should adequately meet the needs of business travelers and vacationing
families on a stopover.
Location
Convenient stopover close to M4, half an hour from Cardiff
Although set a
little back from the main road, the hotel is close to a large roundabout that
connects to the M4 in less than 10 minutes -- and then it's about half an hour to
Cardiff. The surrounding area includes industrial estates, retail parks, and a
hospital and golf club, and it's not particularly picturesque. Easy access
to the motorway, however, makes it a convenient stopover on the way to
the country's more scenic areas, such as Brecon Beacons, which is a little more than 30 minutes
away. Cardiff airport is about a 35 minute drive, and London's Heathrow Airport is about two and a half hours away by car.
Rooms
Simple rooms with standard amenities and comfy beds -- though some traffic noise
The hotel's 51
rooms all follow the chain's template of no-frills decor in shades of
purple with simple wooden furnishings and carpeted floors. They all come with free Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and hairdryers -- the brand does put a genuine emphasis on providing super-comfy beds. Bathrooms are clean and well-maintained with wall-mounted
soap and shampoo dispensers, and shower/tub combos. Although windows are double glazed, those facing
the road do get some traffic noise, so light sleepers should choose rooms in
the back.
Features
All-you-can-eat breakfast and kids can eat for free
A fully cooked all-you-can-eat
breakfast is served daily at the Longbow restaurant, while a selection of
lighter options is also available. Breakfast is generally not included in the room rate, but kids can eat for free. The restaurant specializes in steaks, and doesn't offer a wide range of
vegetarian options. It also doubles as a pretty decent bar that's popular with
locals, and it has plenty of outdoor seating. Both Wi-Fi and ample parking are
also available free of charge to guests.
