Bottom Line

Located in a heritage building brimming with period details, the upscale Heywood Spa Hotel got a facelift in 2015 with a complete renovation of its public spaces and most of the guest rooms. The public spaces are chic with attractive furniture and architectural eye candy. The facilities are top-notch, including the spa, which aside from typical treatments also has a sauna, whirlpool, and indoor pool. The restaurant and bar are also suitably attractive. Only the small dumpy fitness center disappoints. The location, a mile outside the historic walled town of Tenby, could be a pro for travelers that want to pamper themselves away from the hustle and bustle. But those that want to be closer to the action could try The Park Hotel Tenby.

Scene

A 19th century building loaded with period details and chic furnishings

Dating back to the early 19th century, The
Heywood Spa Hotel's building is listed as a preserved historic landmark. The cream-colored structure has a dollhouse look with pink trim that almost seems edible. The communal areas like the reception area, restaurant, and lounge have architectural details that reflect its history including wainscoting, stained-glass windows, ceiling medallions, and an ornate staircase. The decor complements this backdrop with tufted leather armchairs, wicker baskets, and tripod-style floor lamps. The property caters to tourists
looking to do some extra pampering while on
vacation; it's especially popular with couples and families.

Location

In a quiet area one mile from Tenby's town center

The
Heywood Spa Hotel is located on a residential street on the outskirts of the
seaside town of Tenby, about one mile from the town center, which can be covered in a 17-minute walk or a three-minute drive. There aren’t many
shops or restaurants in the immediate area, but guests willing to make the trip will find many options in town. Tenby North Beach is only a four-minute drive away, and it’s a five-minute drive to the nearby Tenby Golf Club. The town of Pembroke and Pembroke
Castle are 16 minutes away by car, and it’s a 44-minute drive to Pembrokeshire
Coast National Park. Cardiff Airport is just under two hours away by car.

Rooms

Newly renovated rooms

Almost all the guest rooms have been renovated to a high standard. Some of the guest rooms have a pleasant balcony or terrace overlooking the lawn. All the rooms have air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, hairdryers, and irons and ironing boards.

Features

Brand-new spa with a swimming pool, trendy restaurant and bar, and on-site hair salon

The hotel's brand-new spa area has a reasonably-sized indoor swimming pool with floor-to-ceiling
windows, a whirlpool, and sauna, as well as clean and pleasant changing rooms
with showers and lockers and the usual spa treatments (massages, facials). But the adjoining fitness center is small and windowless with only eight machines. There’s also a hair salon near the lobby offering
hair and beauty treatments. The chic brasserie is promoted as a fine-dining restaurant with continental offerings on the menu including a few local Welsh specialties. Its bar is equally stylish with large comfy leather sofas.
