This 161-room Hampton Inn
& Suites doesn’t have much personality, but it’s a solid mid-range choice in a
convenient location -- right beside Reagan Airport and less than 10 minutes
outside Washington, D.C. Highlights include a fitness center, free buffet
breakfasts, spacious rooms and suites, and a free shuttle to the airport and Crystal
City Metro station. Guests should also consider the Radisson
Hotel Reagan National Airport, next door, which has a rooftop pool, on-site
restaurant, and room service.
Scene
Generic chain hotel with basic decor and quiet, professional atmosphere
Built in 2003, this
generic-but-comfortable airport hotel is frequented by budget-minded families,
couples, and business travelers. The spacious lobby is a bit dated, with fake
plants, pink cushioned chairs, and beige and wood-paneled walls. A large
breakfast dining room has more modern decor (it was renovated in 2013), but the
color scheme of pink, orange, and brown is less than appetizing. The hotel previously had a
swimming pool, but it was filled in 2015. Today the property’s only notable
features are a modest fitness center, small 24-hour convenience store, a meeting
room, and a business center. Some guests
have complained that rooms near the ice machines and elevators can be noisy, so
visitors may want to avoid these.
Location
Convenient location in Arlington, 10 minutes outside Washington, D.C.
This Hampton Inn is located
right on Route 1 (also called Jefferson Davis Highway), a busy thoroughfare
frequented by Virginia commuters. The immediate neighborhood is dominated by
hotels, apartment complexes, and office buildings. An underground shopping
mall, Crystal City Shops, offers plenty of stores and restaurants right across
the street, and the nearest subway is two blocks away. Downtown D.C. is about 20 minutes away by
subway or 10 minutes away by car.- Five-minute walk to CrystalCity Metro Station (Yellow and Blue lines)
Rooms
Run-of-the-mill rooms and suites with microwaves and mini-fridges
Nothing distinguishes
these rooms from any other Hampton Inn, though they are spacious and clean. All
have comfy beds and bland decor in shades of brown and beige, with dark wooden
furniture. Guest rooms come with one king or two queen beds. Studio Suites and One-Bedroom Suites are
available with full- and queen-size sofa beds, respectively. All units feature
free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers.
Features
Free breakfast, business center, convenience store, and fitness center
There is no
restaurant or bar, but the free breakfast buffet offers lots of hot and cold
options, including a waffle-making station. The hotel has a business center
(renovated in 2015), and a modest fitness center, a guest laundry room, and a
24-hour convenience store selling snacks and necessities. A free shuttle runs to the airport, metro, and area restaurants (although
it doesn’t run in the wee hours of the morning). The
hotel charges a daily fee for parking, which is not cheap, but much more
affordable than competing hotels in D.C. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel,
and free newspapers are offered in the lobby on weekdays.
