Pros
- Directly on the boardwalk and beach
- All rooms have balconies overlooking the ocean
- Living areas, microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, wet bars, and flat-screen TVs
- Free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi
- Indoor pool and Jacuzzi
- Small fitness center
- On-site laundry facilities
Bottom Line
The 83-room Comfort Inn is a typical mid-range hotel by Virginia Beach standards. Common areas are a bit drab looking -- even the indoor pool area, which boasts ocean views, can be somewhat dreary as the windows are often too fogged up to see through. But the rooms here, if not up to modern decor standards, are cheery with bright, floral curtains and colorful furniture. All feature small balconies overlooking the ocean as well as living areas (many with pull-out sofas), microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, wet bars, and flat-screen TVs. The hotel also offers a small fitness center, laundry facilities, and freebies such as hot breakfast and Wi-Fi. The Comfort Inn offers great value for a beachfront hotel; rooms at the Clarion Inn might be a touch more stylish, but the hotel isn't right on the sand.

On the boardwalk and beach
The Comfort Inn Oceanfront is located right on the boardwalk and beach, overlooking the ocean. Virginia Beach is a large naval town, and you'll see plenty of cars plastered with bumper stickers that read "I love jet noise." But the city has much more to offer besides naval history -- though there's certainly plenty. The boardwalk is lined by a variety of restaurants, ranging from gourmet fine dining to burger joints, and the beach is nice and great for surfing; during the summer there are numerous surfing competitions. There are many bars in the area that are within walking distance of the hotel as well.
If you're looking for culture, however, you'll want to drive to Norfolk, about a half hour away (be warned: there can be a good amount of traffic during rush hour). Norfolk is home to the Virginia Opera, which has a great reputation, as well as the Chrysler Art Museum, the Nauticus Museum, which boasts the USS Wisconsin naval ship, and the MacArthur Memorial. Unless you're only staying for a brief weekend, you'll definitely want to rent a car. Though the recent addition of a light rail has greatly improved public transportation, it only reaches a small area and cabs are hard to come by.
- 27-minute drive to the Norfolk International Airport
- Right on the beach and boardwalk
- 2 to 20-minute walk to numerous restaurants and bars in the area
- 17-minute walk to the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, or a 3-minute drive
- 6-minute drive to the Virginia Aquarium
- 20-minute drive to the Lake Wright public golf course
- 24-minute drive to the Verizon Amphitheater
- 25-minute drive to Downtown Norfolk
- 25-minute drive MacArthur Mall
- 25-minute drive to MacArthur Memorial
- 26-minute drive to Town Point Park, where numerous festivals are held
- 27-minute drive to the USS Wisconsin and Nauticus naval museum
- 27-minute drive to the Children's Museum of Virginia
- 28-minute drive to the Chrysler Museum
- 28-minute drive to the Virginia Opera
- 29-minute drive to the Norfolk Botanical Garden
- 1-hour and 15-minute drive to Colonial Williamsburg
- 1-hour drive to Busch Gardens theme park
