This mid-range Best
Western Plus isn’t very exciting, but it does offer a solid range of features
-- including two pools, a nice fitness center, game room, and restaurant with
free hot breakfasts -- plus unbeatable views of the ocean. The decor is bland
and some areas could use updating, but this hotel is a good overall value in a
great beachfront location.
Scene
A bland mid-range resort in a great beachfront location
With
perks for families, couples, and business travelers, this 214-room Best Western
Plus has a little something for everyone. The hotel could use some updating and
the decor is underwhelming -- taupe-colored walls, sparse artwork, and dull
furniture -- but guests are really here for the beach, which lies just outside.
The
property technically consists of two buildings; the main building was
constructed on the beachfront in 2001, while a smaller section (built in 1984)
is located across the street from the beach. This older building has a modest outdoor pool
and houses 48 additional rooms and suites (which are marketed at a discount
rate). Some guests have complained of accidentally booking these non-oceanfront
rooms, so make sure to choose a room labeled “oceanfront” or “ocean view.”An on-site restaurant, Shoreline Grill, is located on the
first floor and has a bar and beachfront outdoor seating. Aside from paintings
of fish and beach-themed photographs, it looks and feels like a typical diner.
A free hot breakfast buffet (with waffles, eggs, and meat, among other items) is served every
morning. Guests should consider coming early during peak season to avoid the
breakfast rush.
Location
Prime beachfront location on the quieter end of the boardwalk
Situated on the quieter, northern section of the Virginia
Beach Boardwalk, this Best Western Plus is a good choice for those looking to avoid
the crowds. A handful of bars and restaurants are within walking distance, and
guests can easily stroll up the boardwalk to Neptune’s Park, which hosts free
concerts in the summer. A bike path also runs
along the boardwalk.- Four-minutewalk to Neptune’s Park
12-minutedrive to hiking trails at First Landing State Park
Rooms
Plain rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges, and excellent views
Every room in Best Western’s main building offers direct
ocean views and private balconies -- the higher the floor, the better the view.
The satellite building across the street doesn’t offer a view, but it does have
a courtyard with an outdoor pool and kiddy pool. Every unit includes a
coffeemaker, microwave, mini-fridge, and flat-screen TV. As in the rest of the
hotel, the decor is unremarkable -- off-white walls, white bedspreads, and
generic beach paintings. Rooms and bathrooms are on the small side, so families
may feel a bit cramped. A handful of rooms with whirlpools are also available.
Features
A restaurant, business center, game room, gym, and two pools
This Best Western Plus offers a solid range of amenities.
Highlights include an indoor pool and hot tub, spacious fitness center
(renovated in 2014), and a casual beachfront restaurant that serves dinner,
lunch (in summer only), and free breakfast. A modest outdoor pool, kiddy pool,
and game room are also handy for keeping kids entertained. Other perks include
a business center, seasonal ice cream shop, guest laundry room, room service,
free Wi-Fi, and free parking.
