Bottom Line

The luxury Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa is a true hidden treat tucked away on the shores of the Tam Giang Lagoon between the cities of Hue and Danag. It offers a range of room choices including romantic stilted villas and large family houses. Some of the 55 rooms have a private pool and all are spacious with sleek bathrooms. The charming spa set out on the water is a great place to recharge, and the restaurant has a varied Vietnamese/Western menu. There's plenty to please the more active too -- including an outdoor pool, tennis courts, small gym, and kayaks to borrow. The isolation here is key, but those who prefer to stay closer to the action could consider La Residence Hue Hotel & Spa in the city.

Scene

Serene resort with a natural and contemporary style

The Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa has an elegant and natural style that blends beautifully with its secluded setting. There are intricate wood carvings in the beamed ceilings and grand wood pillars beside simple contemporary furniture. The resort hugs the lagoon coastline with well-kept lawns and palm trees, and extends into it with stilted palm-thatched rooms and a network of spa buildings. Stylish artwork and sculptures are perfectly placed throughout the main buildings, which also maximize the peaceful lagoon views. It's a retreat favored by couples on the whole, though there are many larger villas and kids are well-catered to.

Location

Secluded resort between Danang and Hue, 30 minutes to beach

The Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa is located between the cities of Danang and Hue, on the shores of vast Tam Giang Lagoon -- one of the biggest lagoons in Southeast Asia. It's set on a peninsula in 27 hectares of forested land on the edge of Bach Ma National Park -- a 45-minute drive to the serene Truc Lam Bach Ma Monastery, and an hour from the park center for scenic hikes and canopy walks. The resort provides a free daily shuttle to Hue and to Canh Duong Beach, which is 30 minutes away. Hue City, for shopping and attractions such as the Citadel and Thien Mu Pagoda, is a 75-minute drive. Hue Airport (for regional flights) is a 30-minute drive. The station and international airport at Danang is 75 minutes from the resort. The charming streets of Hoi An Old Town, famous for their colorful silks, are a two-hour drive away.

Rooms

Over-water bungalows, some with private pools; all with balconies and outdoor showers

There are a variety of rooms at the Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa, from villas suspended on stilts over the lagoon to large family houses on the hillside. The resort's extensive grounds provide a good level of privacy. Rooms are contemporary with a minimalist Vietnamese style of marble floors and dark wood furniture against white walls. Pretty prints on the wardrobes and wall art add a touch of color. Some units feature a private pool, including the two-bedroom over-water Pool Aqua Bungalow. All units are spacious and come with air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, minibars, kettles, safes, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, robes, a living area, and a private balcony. The Pool Family House is set in its own manicured gardens, with two bedrooms connected by a kitchen and living area. It has a private pool with superb lagoon views, thatched cabana, and a tennis court. Waterfront rooms are more convenient for those who want to be near the pool, spa and restaurant, and the suspended Aqua Bungalows have superb panoramic water views.

The sleek bathrooms are huge, and come with dual basins, free-standing tubs, and rainfall showers. They have a fresh indoor/outdoor style with pebbles around the tub and shower area, and large windows. All rooms also have an additional outdoor rainfall shower.

Features

Gorgeous swimming pool, luxe spa, restaurant, tennis courts, bikes and kayaks to borrow

There is plenty to do at the Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa. A large infinity pool overlooks the lagoon, with palm-thatched cabanas and sun loungers placed around it, and there are tennis courts for the more active. The stilted spa has a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool, and it offers a range of treatments including hair/beauty and a children's menu, plus regular yoga and Tai Chi classes. There is just one restaurant, with both Vietnamese and Western dishes, and a buffet breakfast. Several options are available for private dining, including The Twilight -- a private table on the end of a boardwalk and in-villa meals. The small gym has a few cardio machines and free weights. For kids, there's a kid's club, and a game room with a pool table and table soccer. The library has internet access and a collection of DVDs to borrow. Plus, there's an art gallery, gift store, a meeting room, and free Wi-Fi. Each villa is supplied with two bikes, and golf buggies are on hand to ferry guests around the resort if required. Kayaks are available for exploring the lagoon and there's a free shuttle bus to the beach and to Hue city.
