This first impression is that of welcome calm in what can be a hectic, noisy city -- in fact, the hotel's peaceful vibe is one of its major draw cards. The large lobby is bright, with a traditional Vietnamese feel in its red velvet armchairs and in-lay tile flooring. There are a number of places for guests to unwind here, though the most appealing are high above on the 14th floor. This is where the jewel in this mid-range hotel's crown can be found: a rooftop bar and cafe with views right across to the Bitexco Tower. Overall, this property has a chilled-out vibe and is favored by families and couples looking for a base away from the town's central hub.

Located a little outside of the city center, the Sunland Saigon is set back from Vo Van Kiet Road, which is on the Ben Nghe Canal and behind a row of shophouses. There are a few restaurants nearby and the Russian Market is next door, which is popular for tourists seeking bargains. Nightlife is nearby as well, with the bustling clubs and bars along Bui Ven less than 10 minutes away on foot. It's a five-minute drive to the larger Ben Thanh Market or Bitexco Tower, with its 49th floor sky deck. Travelers can also take a 20-minute stroll along the canal to the tower. Most of the city's other top attractions, like the Independence Palace and the cathedral, are around a 10-minute drive away. It's a 35-minute drive to the airport, and the famous Cu Chi Tunnels are around 90 minutes away by car.

Decor is slightly dated, especially the beige leather sofas, and there are a lot of clashing patterns (think: patterned wallpaper next to bright tropical beach murals and satin bed runners). Many Deluxe Rooms have views over the river, and Deluxe Triple Rooms are ideal for family or friend groups (connecting rooms are also available). Junior Suites add a separate sitting area, and the Sunland Suite has two bedrooms plus a living room. Bathrooms vary between rooms and suites, with Superior and Deluxe Rooms featuring glass walls partially obscured with the aforementioned tropical murals. These have shower/tub combos. Suites are more modern, and feature rainfall showers. All have pale tiled walls and a good amount of counter space. Hairdryers, toiletries, and towels are provided.

The Sunland Saigon crams in a decent set of features for a three-pearl hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The rooftop bar has a variety of seating, from outdoor bar stools and bistro-style chairs, to indoor tables and sofas. It serves a free breakfast buffet that includes an egg stations, plus a Mediterranean-inspired menu throughout the rest of the day. Food and drinks can also be taken around the rooftop pool, which has a selection of loungers and tables beside it. The large, well-equipped gym includes cardio and weight machines, as well as a sauna -- it's far nicer than other nearby hotels in this category. The lobby lounge serves both Western and local dishes throughout the day, and has a pleasant outdoor terrace plus live music. There's a meeting room, and an internet station with two PCs in the lobby lounge. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
