Scene

Smart boutique hotel with a laid-back vibe for business and leisure travelers

Sanouva Danang Hotel is housed in a 15-story heritage-style building, with a grand arched entrance flanked by two huge French neoclassical windows. The property's lobby is sleek and contemporary, with eye-catching furniture and chic details that put a modern spin on the classic architectural style. There are yellow club chairs, attractive, geometric tile floors, and contemporary chandeliers. Antique motorbikes leaned against walls with large black-and-white photos of street scenes add oodles of flair. This Art Deco-inspired decor continues in the restaurant, which boasts black-and-white-checkered floors, pops of red and gray, and sepia prints of Paris landmarks. Breakfast is a busy time, but the hotel is generally quiet, with guests in a rush to get out and explore the city. The atmosphere is decidedly laid-back, but there's pop music playing at a reasonable volume in the lobby, and an energetic front desk staff. The hotel draws business and leisure travelers alike.

Location

In the city center near eateries and shops, but not within walking distance of the beach

Sanouva Danang Hotel is located on a busy street in the heart of the city center. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants within a few blocks, and the river, located less than a 10-minute walk away, is lined with plenty of other dining and drinking spots. Han Market is about a five-minute walk from the hotel, and Dragon Bridge -- one of Da Nang’s most recognizable landmarks -- is just 15 minutes away on foot. The city’s long, sandy beach is less than a 10-minute drive away, and other local attractions such as the Marble Mountains and the Lady Buddha are each within a 20-minute drive of the hotel. The entrance to the scenic Hai Van Pass is about 40 minutes in the car. Expect a 10-minute drive to Danang International Airport can be reached in about 10 minutes

Rooms

Stylish and well-equipped flat-screen TVs, minibars, and kettles, plus sleek bathrooms

In a town where a plethora of hotels have classic Vietnamese decor, the Sanouva’s guest rooms are refreshingly chic and spacious. There are warehouse-style windows, smoky-gray walls, dark laminate floors, and bright yellow and orange accents. Beds have suede tufted headboards and silky accent pillows, there are crushed-velvet chairs, and polished wood desks that add texture.

Standard amenities are top-notch, and include flat-screen TVs, electric kettles with free tea and coffee (replenished daily), free bottled water, and minibars stocked with water, soda, beer, juices, energy drinks, and an array of snacks, and free high-speed Wi-Fi.

Bathrooms are sleek and sexy, with black tiles throughout, rectangular sinks, backlit mirrors, and large walk-in rainfall showers. Some Executive Rooms, Signature Suites, and the Penthouse have bathtubs. Hairdryers are provided in cloth bags, along with a wide array of toiletries, including shower caps, combs, razors, toothbrushes, and cotton buds. Conditioner, though, is not provided. Our towels were thick, soft, and spotless, and so were the ones we saw in other rooms.

Rooms come with either two twin beds or a king, and we found ours comfortable and plush, with a thick pillow top, four pillows, crisp white linens, and a fluffy duvet. A handful of rooms have average street views, but rooms on higher floors offer sweeping views of the city.

Features

On-site restaurant, free breakfast, and a spa with saunas, but gym has limited equipment

The ample amenities at this hotel provide guests with upscale comforts -- and there are plenty of freebies to top it off. For dining, the full-service S’ngon Restaurant has an excellent free buffet breakfast, with more than 25 Asian and Western options. The spread includes made-to-order eggs and pancakes, cereal, pastries, pho, noodles, rice dishes, tofu, soups, salads, fresh fruit, and quality coffee and tea. Lunch and dinner menus also have local and international options, and the room service menu, which is available until dinner, includes salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, and pizza.

For wellness, the spa offers body treatments with natural products such as green tea and rice, and there are salon services and two saunas. Some room rates include free massages or reflexology. The fitness center is modern and bright, but equipment is limited, with two machines for cardio and one for strength training. The hotel has two meeting rooms with projectors, and guests can use the three computers in the lobby free of charge. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
