Best Value Hotels in Vienna

Not only does this hotel consistently offer some of the lowest rates on this list, but it also has one of the prettiest interiors and widest range of on-site amenities. A modern design hotel in the up-and-coming Sonnwend quarter, it features a rooftop spa, sauna, and fitness room, free Wi-Fi throughout, and sleek rooms with large flat-screen TVs. The drawback is that Hotel Zeitgeist is not within walking distance of the city center, but it is just a short walk from Vienna's central station.

Opened by a company known for its youth hostels, La Prima has hostel prices but is nonetheless an upper-mid-range hotel with rates that rarely peak over $100/night (and generally hover much lower). Rooms are simple, but all come with heated towel racks and some have balconies. There's a lovely courtyard and lobby bar, but this hotel lacks the fitness center that Hotel Zeitgeist has.

The Star Inn is not located in central Vienna, but it's super close to the U-Bahn metro stations and its location allows for very large, spotless rooms that come with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. A family-friendly option, the hotel permits children under 12 to stay for free with a paying adult, and two pets per room.

Also a pet-friendly property, Austria Trend makes our list thanks to reasonable rates, modern rooms with pillow menus, a dedicated children's area, and free Wi-Fi. Plus, it has one of the best locations among the hotels here -- near Mariahilfer Strasse, Vienna’s longest shopping street. 

While some common areas of the Altwienerhof feel almost regal, some guests find the traditional rooms to be a bit dated. It's a great value option, though, considering there's free Wi-Fi throughout and free breakfast is served daily. The location is also convenient, whether you're looking to shop or use public transportation to reach various Vienna attractions.

A bit more removed from attractions and a tad more dated than its sister property (taking our fourth spot on the list), Austria Trend Hotel Ananas offers a solid value with nice perks like rooms with sound-reducing parquet floors and pillow menus, free WI-Fi, and a quaint cafe serving traditional Viennese coffee and bites.

This hostel is one of the most popular in Vienna. Rooms, not surprisingly, have a hostel-like vibe; both private and shared options are available. Guests also have access to an outdoor garden, big communal kitchen, and bar that serves free lemonade, as well as free Wi-Fi and free use of loaner iPads.

Affiliated with the International Kolping Society, a Catholic lay association that runs student housing facilities and a few hotels, Kolpinghaus is a bare-bones option that caters to budget-minded tourists with free breakfast and a great location near the Museum Quarter. Rooms are clean and some have private balconies, but they have an institutional, dorm-like feel and the weak Wi-Fi signal doesn't reach them all.
