Bottom Line

The three-pearl NH Belvedere is located outside of the historic center, near the Belvedere Palace. This 114-room property is slightly dated -- many rooms have old tube TVs and tired decor with wear, tear, and stains. But rooms are spacious and equipped with mini-fridges. Still, the property lacks the amenities and contemporary style that most NH properties have -- there is no restaurant, bar, or meeting rooms -- and the free Wi-Fi can be spotty. There is a breakfast buffet served in a lovely breakfast room, though it costs a fee. The hotel also offers a sauna and a small dated fitness room. Travelers might also want to consider the Pentahotel Vienna, a more stylish alternative with a 24-hour bar and a restaurant.

Scene

Historic mid-range property that attracts couples and business travelers

The NH Belvedere’s exterior is far more appealing than its interiors. The building dates back to 1888 when it was a State Printing House, and has a lovely white facade with intricate stone work. The interior lacks the contemporary style seen in other NH properties. Glossy tan stairs lead to a wooden desk lit by hanging lights. The walls are plain, and there’s little decor beyond red leather armchairs placed here and there. Hallways are similarly bland with gray or dated maroon and gray carpets. The breakfast room has a cozy vibe with maroon carpets, stylish brown booths along the walls, and wooden chairs and tables. Green plants and black-and-white photographs add a nice touch. There’s also a bar area, though it's not in service. Guests can still gather in the room as there’s a number of orange leather armchairs and wooden tables for seating. The hotel mainly attracts couples, who are drawn by its value versus its features. Its proximity to embassies and businesses makes it a budget-friendly option for business travelers as well.

Location

Outside the city center, but within walking distance of the Belvedere Palace, restaurants, and public transportation

The hotel is located in Landstraße, Vienna's Third District that's a bit outside of the city center. The property is right by the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna. Belvedere Palace is a 12-minute walk away. It’s about a 25-minute walk to downtown Vienna and major attractions like St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Palace. Other attractions like Schonbrunn Palace (a 15-minute drive or an hour by public transportation) and Prater Park (a 10-minute drive or 15 minutes via public transportation) are too far to reach on foot. There are two different tram stops that are a four-minute walk from the hotel, and there's a variety of dining options nearby. Vienna's central train station is a 10-minute bus ride or a 22-minute walk from the hotel, while the Vienna International Airport is a 20-minute drive or 25 to 35 minutes via public transit.

Rooms

Dated rooms with tube TVs (in most), minibars, and sometimes kettles

Guests familiar with the NH brand might be surprised by the guest rooms at this Vienna outpost. They have a homey vibe with a warm color scheme of oranges and browns, but the decor is not stylish and fairly dated. In addition to reports of carpet and furniture stains, the wooden furniture has a '70s style to it, and many rooms have old-fashioned tube TVs. Amenities include minibars, safes, kettles (in some), and free Wi-Fi, though there have been reports of connectivity issues. Rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, but there have been complaints about that too, as well as noise issues. Bathrooms are fairly spacious, with white tiles, shower/tub combos, toiletries, and hairdryers. Some rooms have  views of the park next door, and smoking rooms are available.

Features

Breakfast buffet, small fitness room, and free Wi-Fi

NH Belvedere offers some basic amenities, with the best being a breakfast buffet. Though it costs a fee, it includes cold cuts, cheese, pastries, and breads. There's an early-bird option for breakfast, and it can be delivered to rooms as well. The “Open Bar,” as the hotel calls it, is the only other dining option. It’s a large self-serve vending machine with drinks (some alcohol), sandwiches, and ice cream. Other amenities include a wellness area with a sauna, steam bath, and a relaxation room. There’s also a small 24-hour fitness room with three dated cardio machines and a weight machine. Wi-Fi is free, and there’s a public computer with a printer in the lobby. Parking incurs a fee. Pets are welcome, though they require a deposit.
