A buffet breakfast is served in a pleasant dining room, and the beautiful antique wooden elevator is worth checking out. The 39 rooms are bright and surprisingly spacious with plenty of storage space. Triple Rooms are a plus for families or groups. The lack of air-conditioning is common in old hotels in the city, so travelers visiting at the height of summer might want to check out nearby Hotel Alpha where rooms are air-conditioned and have mini-fridges.
Scene
Traditional hotel with a friendly atmosphere and many repeat guests
Hotel Graf Stadion is housed in a Biedermeier building that dates back to the early 1900's. It's on a narrow street typical of the historic city center, and the interior reflects that too. Monochrome checkered flooring extends through the lobby into the restaurant and furniture is antique Viennese. Golden tones run throughout, from the stripes in the furniture to the drapes and gilt-framed mirrors. There are some modern leather sofas that stick out style-wise, as does the Grecian statue, and the hallways look a bit tired. One of its most charming original features is a beautiful wooden mechanical elevator. It's a family-run place with a welcoming, laid-back feel. There are many regulars that return to book the same room again and again, mostly mature couples.
Location
Central location, close to city hall and walking distance to the Museum Quarter
Hotel Graf Stadion is located in the center of Vienna, on a quiet side street off busy Josefstadter Strasse. There are several eateries along the main street and in the local area. It's a five-minute walk from the hotel to the town hall plaza and parliament buildings, and 15 minutes to the Museum Quarter. Rathaus subway and tram stations are both a couple of minutes away on foot, and connect to the historic city center in around 20 minutes. Buses also leave from Rathaus direct to the airport in about 40 minutes. It's about 50 minutes on the train, or a 30-minute drive.
Rooms
Simple and bright rooms with plenty of space, but no air-conditioning
Rooms at the Hotel Graf Stadion are simple and bright. There's a good range of configurations -- from Single to Triple Rooms, which will suit a variety of guests. For a city-center, historical hotel, the rooms have a decent amount of space too. Original art canvases hang on the walls and they feature flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, free Wi-Fi, and ample storage. Double and Triple Rooms have additional seating space with armchairs. There is no air-conditioning, which is common in Vienna, so rooms can get hot during summer months. Bathrooms are also quite simple, with a white-tiled finish, shower cubicles, pump toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Buffet breakfast with eggs, plus free Wi-Fi throughout
