The surrounding streets are relatively quiet with more of a local than touristy vibe, and this relaxed atmosphere extends to the hotel. Decor is contemporary, unfussy, and feels fresh, as the property was renovated in 2015. A compact lobby library features wood-paneled walls and stylish black-and-white-striped couches offset with a velvety red settee. Shelves full of Viennese art books help create a cozy feel. The on-site restaurant and bar has a similar look, with plush armchairs in rich blue and red, leathery ottoman seating, and hanging pendant lights. Colorful, spare paintings decorate the walls and natural light pours in through numerous windows. There's more space to relax out in the chic courtyard garden, where ultra-modern white seating and oversized lamps are clustered amidst various trees and potted plants. The hotel attracts a range of customers, including business guests and tourists who want a low-key setting from which to explore Vienna. 

The Holiday Inn Vienna City is located on a pleasant street in the trendy Freihausviertel neighborhood, just a six-minute walk from Naschmarkt with its many restaurants and cafes. It's also about a 15-minute walk from the Museum Quarter and the State Opera House. Guests can walk to Ring Road, which circles Vienna's historic center, in about 15 minutes. Most historic sights, though, are a 20- to 25-minute walk, including Kunsthistorisches Museum (19 minutes), Hofburg Palace (22 minutes), and St. Stephen’s Cathedral (24 minutes). For attractions farther out, the Kettenbrückengasse U-Bhan station is a six-minute walk from the hotel. Vienna International Airport is about a 25-minute drive. An airport shuttle is available for an extra fee. Limited parking is available, but it costs an extra fee.

The hotel's 101 guest rooms are clean and well-maintained, with stylish, modern decor. Options are Standard Rooms, Executive Club Level Rooms, and Suites. Standard Rooms feature a gray-and-black color scheme, including carpeting, striped accent walls, and checkerboard throw blankets. Light-wood furnishings include desks, built-in shelving, and wardrobes; stocked minibars and coffee/tea facilities are handily tucked away. Each room has a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. Free daily newspapers are a nice touch. Some rooms tend to get hot, according to past guests, but windows do open and there's individually controlled air-conditioning. Neutral white-and-gray tiled bathrooms include shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and free toiletries. Irons and ironing boards are provided. Upgraded rooms are more spacious and each includes a sofa bed. Travelers with kids should note that rollaway beds and cribs are not available in Standard Rooms.

The hotel's modern on-site restaurant and bar, Wiener Moderne, serves basic Viennese and international cuisine for lunch and dinner in addition to a daily breakfast buffet.
