The Holiday Inn Vienna City is an upscale chain property in the Freihausviertel district outside of the city center. Renovated in 2015, the hotel feels fresh and polished, from the lobby's velvety seating to the chic interior courtyard. The 101 guest rooms are tastefully decorated, and have minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Features include a restaurant serving Viennese and international cuisine, a compact fitness room, and a small library. However, there are extra fees associated with the breakfast buffet, parking, and (oddly) if more than one guest stays in the room. While dining and public transport are within a short walk, it's a bit of a hike to central Vienna and most tourist attractions. Travelers looking for an upscale property in the heart of the city may want to consider Hotel Royal, though rates are typically a little higher.
Scene
Relaxed upscale chain hotel with fresh decor and a chic courtyard garden
The Holiday Inn Vienna City is situated in a gray-and-white-striped building with an angular, modern facade. The surrounding streets are relatively quiet with more of a local than touristy vibe, and this relaxed atmosphere extends to the hotel. Decor is contemporary, unfussy, and feels fresh, as the property was renovated in 2015. A compact lobby library features wood-paneled walls and stylish black-and-white-striped couches offset with a velvety red settee. Shelves full of Viennese art books help create a cozy feel. The on-site restaurant and bar has a similar look, with plush armchairs in rich blue and red, leathery ottoman seating, and hanging pendant lights. Colorful, spare paintings decorate the walls and natural light pours in through numerous windows. There's more space to relax out in the chic courtyard garden, where ultra-modern white seating and oversized lamps are clustered amidst various trees and potted plants. The hotel attracts a range of customers, including business guests and tourists who want a low-key setting from which to explore Vienna.
