The Parkside Hotel & Spa
810 Humboldt St

The 126-room, all-suite Parkside Hotel & Spa is a super chic and sustainable upscale property with a full-service spa, gym, bar and cafe, small private movie theater, rooftop garden, and lobby atrium with greenery and a pond. The hotel's modern multi-room suites feel like private apartments and include fully equipped kitchenettes, sitting areas with electric fireplaces, and furnished balconies. The hotel is situated at the southern edge of downtown Victoria, so it's within walking distance to downtown and the inner harbor. Its biggest drawbacks? No air-conditioning and a charge for breakfast. Guests looking for air-conditioning and a harbor view may want to consider the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort & Spa, though it tends to be a bit pricier.

Inn at Laurel Point
680 Montreal St

Inn at Laurel Point is an upscale property with impressive green features and a picturesque setting on a peninsula near the entrance to Victoria’s Inner Harbour. It's a good choice for both tourists and business travelers, as it's within a 10- to 15-minute walk of downtown Victoria and the Victoria Conference Center. It's also the first and only carbon-neutral hotel in British Columbia, and features a restaurant serving only ethically harvested and local seafood. The 200 rooms are divided into two wings, one more high-end than the other, but all have balconies, some with beautiful harbor views. Features include a glass-enclosed indoor pool and a sundeck in a pretty Japanese garden. Decor throughout the property could use an update, however, and breakfast isn't included in rates. The Parkside Hotel & Spa has a more modern style, but a busier location.

The Oswego Hotel
500 Oswego St

The 80-room Oswego Hotel is a romantic four-pearl property in the center of Victoria, on British Columbia's Vancouver Island. All of the units are suites -- ranging from Studios up to Two-Bedroom Boutique Suites -- and all come with modern kitchens full of stainless-steel appliances. Amenities include in-room spa services, a fitness center, and an on-site restaurant with weekly live jazz. Underground self and valet parking is also available, but it costs extra (except for guests with hybrid cars, who get to park for free). Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, but can occasionally be spotty. Travelers wanting to stay somewhere with a pool may prefer the Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour instead.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Victoria
777 Douglas St, at Burdett Ave.

The upper-middle-range DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Victoria is an attractive option for any travelers visiting Victoria for pleasure or business. It has a prime downtown location, just a brief walk from the waterfront and many attractions. Its 181 guest rooms and suites are cheerful and stylish. They come equipped with Keurig coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and microwaves, and many units also feature spectacular views from private balconies. Highlights include a full-service restaurant, quaint English pub, fitness center, valet parking, and free Wi-Fi, but the hotel doesn't have a pool. Rates are competitive, but they don’t include breakfast. For travelers who prefer more intimate hotels, the nearby Hotel Rialto offers a lovely boutique experience. It has comparable rates that include a continental breakfast.

Abigail's Hotel
906 McClure St

Occupying a 1930s Tudor revival-style mansion, Abigail's Hotel is a small, mid-range heritage inn decorated in a rustic, romantic style that makes it an attractive alternative to generic chain hotels. The 23 rooms were renovated in 2014 and come equipped with luxurious amenities such as flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, fireplaces, and whirlpool baths. A three-course breakfast is included in the room rates, as are evening appetizers. Parking and Wi-Fi are also free. However, the hotel has a strict adults-only policy, with only children above the age of 13 allowed to stay. Guests wanting a comparably priced hotel that allows kids may want to check out the four-pearl Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour, which also has a swimming pool, a spa, and a restaurant.

Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza Hotel
642 Johnson St

The 103-room, mid-range Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza Hotel is exceptionally well-located in downtown Victoria. This clean property is just a two-minute walk from City Hall and less than a 15-minute walk to the Inner Harbor. It's an excellent price for the location, though the decor is somewhat generic, chain-hotel fare. Rooms are clean and comfortable, though, with mini-fridges, Keurig coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. The hotel has a full-service restaurant on-site, a drab but functional fitness center, and a 24-hour front desk. Closer to the Inner Harbor, the mid-range Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites offers more elegant decor and an indoor pool, though is pricier than the Best Western.

Oak Bay Beach Hotel
1175 Beach Drive

The four-and-a-half-pearl Oak Bay Beach Hotel offers luxurious accommodations and a spectacular oceanfront setting, though some may find its traditional decor dated and a tad stuffy. But there's a lot to like about this hotel, with an impressive lineup of amenities including gourmet dining, a classic British pub, an on-site theater, and a heated outdoor pool and mineral baths. There's also a full-service spa with a steam room and fitness center, but it’s small and sparsely equipped. The hotel's 100 guest rooms are elegant and spacious, and many have panoramic bay views from private balconies or patios. Marble bathrooms are a highlight, with heated floors and separate soaking tubs. Travelers looking for an upscale property that's closer to downtown Victoria can check out Inn at Laurel Point.

Magnolia Hotel And Spa
623 Courtney Street

Located in the historic heritage district, the luxury Magnolia Hotel and Spa is one of Victoria's landmark hotels, known for its elegant decor and high level of service. All the 64 guest rooms are elegantly decorated in soft color tones with striking dark furniture, and all come equipped with luxurious amenities such as Nespresso coffeemakers and iPod docks. The higher-category rooms have scenic views of Victoria harbor, and little extras such as gas fireplaces and lounge chairs. Features include an on-site restaurant and bar, a spa, a sauna, and 24-hour fitness and business centers. This is one of the more expensive hotels in the area, so travelers may also want to consider Brentwood Bay Resort & Spa, which offers a waterfront location, balconies with ocean views, and an outdoor pool, at very competitive rates.
