Some rooms are quite dated
The 81-room Hotel Leopardi is a three-pearl property in a residential area, a 10-minute drive outside central Verona. There's not much immediately around the hotel, so many guests opt to have a car, and parking is free. The hotel does provide a shuttle for guests attending events at the Arena. Rooms are simple and often dated, with standard features including flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning. All meals are served in the restaurant, and breakfast is free. There's also a bar in the lobby. The spa is small and there's a fitness center as well, but they're not free. Travelers who'd prefer to be closer to the city center could check out the Hotel Milano, where rates are higher but they won't break the bank.
Scene
Traditionally styled hotel suitable for all types of travelers who don't mind commuting to sights
Named after an important 19th-century literary figure and the street on which it sits, this hotel doesn't have much to set it apart from other mid-range options in Verona. The style is a mostly pleasant mix of modern and classic accents, from the common areas to the rooms. Rugs sit atop tile floors in the lobby, and cushy brown leather sofas and chairs provide seating, though it's not exactly the kind of place one would while away the afternoons. The bar is adjacent to the lobby for those preferring a little refreshment while they unwind. Overall, this hotel provides a good value for guests who don't need to be in the city center. Given its lower rates, it has appeal for all types of travelers.
Location
In a residential area, a 10-minute drive or 20-minute walk from central Verona
This hotel is located in a residential area about a 10-minute drive, or 20-minute walk, outside of central Verona. The Romanesque Basilica of San Zeno is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, or five minutes by car. The area around the hotel has fast food outlets, a gas station, and some shops, but isn't exactly charming. Many previous guests find that they need a car to get around, and on-site parking is free. The hotel provides shuttle service into town for guests attending events at the Arena. The closest train station is a seven-minute drive away, and the Verona Villafranca Airport is about 15 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Simple rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes, suites with whirlpool tubs
Rooms are simple and range from generically modern to dated in style. Details include wood floors, classic or clean-lined wood furniture, and minimal decor -- aside from accent walls in shades like sage green there isn't much color. The more old-school rooms have unattractive bedspreads and velvet accents that are held over from a previous decade. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. While the CD players were once a thoughtful addition, MP3 players would be a more modern amenity. Bathrooms are basic and equipped with showers or tub/shower combos, bidets, towel warmers, hairdryers, and toiletries in large containers. Superior Rooms are a little larger, and some have sofa beds for additional sleeping space. The three Junior Suites are the largest of the bunch, with two leather armchairs, electric kettles, whirlpool tubs, and upmarket toiletries. Robes and slippers are provided in these rooms as well. Views are mostly of surrounding buildings and the countryside.
Features
Restaurant and bar, free breakfast buffet, spa, fitness center, plus free parking and Wi-Fi
The hotel's restaurant, La Ginestra, serves Italian fare for lunch and dinner, and a free breakfast buffet is served daily in a cozy, modern breakfast room. There's also a bar in the lobby with leather seating. The spa offers a relaxation area, whirlpool, and Turkish bath, and massage and beauty services are available. A small fitness center has cardio equipment with a flat-screen TV on the wall for entertainment. Keep in mind that there are fees to access both the spa and the fitness room (the fees for entering latter are particularly disappointing given what's on offer). Two events spaces can accommodate gatherings of various sizes (up to 150 people in one room and 100 in the other). On-site parking is free, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
