Bottom Line

The 49-room BEST WESTERN Hotel Firenze is a three-pearl chain option conveniently located within walking distance of Piazza Bra and the Arena. Restaurants, bars, and shops also are easily accessible on foot. Rooms are colorfully decorated and come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and kettles for tea and coffee. An annex next door houses 18 studio apartments with more space and fully equipped kitchenettes. Scene

Simple hotel with a bit of character that's suitable for all sorts of travelers

This chain hotel is housed in a six-story building that fits right in on its tree-lined street with wide sidewalks. Big potted trees and plants flank the glass front doors. Inside, the lobby sets the tone for the rest of the hotel, with its brightly colored accents and busy mosaic floor. Gold and burgundy leather Chesterfield sofas and chairs provide places for guests to sit, and they can watch the four flat-screen TVs hanging on the wall or read the newspapers displayed on a rack. Hallways to guests rooms follow the colorful theme, with walls painted in hues like orange, red, and green, and hung with artwork. The atmosphere here is relaxed, drawing all types of travelers, including couples, families, groups, businesspeople, and individual travelers.

Location

On Corso Porta Nuova, within walking distance of most everything

The hotel is situated on Corso Porta Nuova, a strategic position in the city that's near numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Piazza Bra and the Verona Arena, which is the city's most recognizable landmark. Other tourist attractions within walking distance include the Casa di Giulietta (of "Romeo & Juliet" fame) and the Castelvecchio Museum. The Roman Theatre is about a 30-minute walk, or 10 minutes away by car. Porta Nuova train station is also nearby for easy access to points farther afield. Verona Villafranca Airport is about 15 minutes away by car, or 30 minutes by public transportation.

Rooms

Colorful rooms with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi; studio apartments in next-door annex

Rooms are small, but colorful, with rugs atop hardwood floors, wooden furniture, white wallpapered walls with borders, patterned fabrics, and bright green chairs. Overall, it's a homey look that verges on dated, though the atmosphere isn't unpleasant. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, minibars, safes, and kettles for tea and coffee. Bathrooms also are brightly colored, with green tile floors and floral accented tiling on the walls. They come with jetted tub/shower combos, bidets, hairdryers, and toiletries. Upgraded rooms add more space and sitting areas. A next-door annex houses 18 studio apartments, all with fully equipped kitchenettes and washer/dryers. Some of these are so colorful that guests may find them garish. Family apartments have sofa beds for seating and extra sleeping space. They also come with Nintendo Wii game systems, kid-friendly videos, and stuffed animals on the beds. Some rooms have small balconies.

Features

Breakfast buffet (fee), lobby bar, meeting rooms, internet station, free Wi-Fi, and bikes to rent

The small hotel doesn't have a lot of features, but an American-style breakfast buffet with hot and cold items (small fee) is served daily in the breakfast room. Room service is available, and children get their own menu. There's also a bar in the lobby that serves drinks and snacks throughout the day. Three modern meeting rooms can accommodate groups of up to 40 people. An internet corner in the lobby provides a computer and printer for guests to use, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Bicycles can be rented, and nearby garage parking is available for a fee.
