The Lodge at Spruce Peak is one of the top luxury properties in Vermont, and offers rustic elegance throughout -- from the impressive lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows to the bright, contemporary rooms. This property has a lot in the way of amenities, particularly for the area: an inviting spa, big outdoor pool with mountain views, acclaimed restaurant, state-of-the-art fitness center, 18-hole golf course, and great children's program. The rooms aren't quite as luxurious as some might expect for a hotel of this category, but they're outfitted in simple, clean mountain decor and equipped with flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and balconies; most have working fireplaces. However, extra fees, including the mandatory valet parking fee, may make some guests feel nickel-and-dimed, and room rates are pricey.
Location
In a serene setting, but close to everything in the Stowe area
The Lodge at Spruce Peak is conveniently located right off Mountain Road, the main thoroughfare in the region, which connects several villages and small towns to the ski resorts. It is a very busy road and can get congested, but offers easy access both to downtown Stowe and the mountains.
Perhaps most notable is this resort's ski-in ski-out access, which puts you directly on Spruce Peak, one of Stowe's two mountains. There are several excellent restaurants within a short drive, and the jaw-dropping vistas from Smugglers’ Notch (closed in the winter) are a quick drive away.
The tiny, slow-paced village of Stowe is probably the best base to explore the area. It has its share of urban amenities, such as unique shops, a movie theater, entertainment venues, and bars, plus one of the best dining scenes in New England. The actual downtown area is compact and quiet, but there’s always a lot going on.
