Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Hotel Ai Due Principi is a 15-room, canal-side
hotel set in the Castello region of central Venice. The location is excellent
for exploring the city, with all the major tourist sights a short walk away.
The property is decorated in a modern style but with touches of Venetian flair,
such as Murano glasswork and decorative ceilings. Breakfast is included, though its nothing special, and there's a small bar offering evening drinks. Other options
in the area include the Savoia & Jolanda Hotel which is similarly priced
and has free Wi-Fi and a restaurant on-site.

Scene

Simple and modern hotel with touches of Venetian opulence

The lobby in Hotel Ai Due Principi is bright and has a small
reception desk with inset stained glass. There are numerous potted plants and a
glass cabinet showing off traditional Venetian masks and colorful local blown
glass. Red leather tub chairs and red velvet drapes add warmth to the plain cream
decor, and a huge framed painting of Venice's Grand Canal hangs above a table
of tourist attraction leaflets. A small breakfast room and bar sits adjacent to
the lobby where there are contemporary black leather bar stools, and red
leather tub chairs and tables. The atmosphere is peaceful and modern.

Location

A peaceful spot only a short walk from St Mark's Square

The Ai Due Principi overlooks the Rio di San
Provoio canal in the ancient and picturesque Castello region. While the location of the hotel is definitely quiet, it's just 100 meters from St Mark's Square and within a
10-minute walk of some of Venice's other top sights, including the Church of
San Zaccaria, the Bridge of Sighs, the Rialto Bridge, and Doge's Palace. The
Pinault Foundation art gallery and the shopping area of Via XXII Marzo and the
Mercerie are less than a 15-minute walk away. Getting to the islands of Murano,
Torcello, and Burano is straightforward from here too, as the San Zaccaria ferry
stop is just a five-minute walk away.

Rooms

Chic and stylish rooms, with good views

Rooms at the Ai Due Principi are spacious
and come equipped with flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, air-conditioning,
a safe, minibar, hairdryer, desk, and free newspapers. Wi-Fi is available in rooms but there's an extra charge for it. Bathrooms are elegant,
spotlessly clean, and decorated with luxurious and striking Bisazza mosaic tiles. All grades
of rooms have pleasant views. The Superior rooms overlook the hotel's inner
courtyard, while the Deluxe rooms look over the gardens and can also see the
Church of San Zaccaria. Canal View rooms are available for a higher rate, as is
a large Suite which has a sitting room and private balcony. The decor is fairly
neutral and modern, using chic colors like taupe and cream. There are subtle
Venetian touches throughout such as damask print wallpaper, silk curtains, and Murano
glass chandeliers.

Features

Free cold buffet breakfast, small bar, and meeting room

The hotel lacks the facilities of larger
hotels, like a fitness center and spa. There's no full service restaurant either, but
breakfast is included in the room rate and is a standard continental buffet.
There are meats, cheese, and pastries, but there isn't a huge selection. Within
the dining room is the bar which serves drinks in the evening. Wi-Fi is
available in most of the public areas but is not free of charge. For business
travelers, there's a meeting room suitable for up to 12 people.
