Bottom Line

The Ca' del Campo is a typical mid-range Venice hotel in a 16th-century building, complete with the classical Venetian interiors and canal-side setting. Its location in the touristic center of the city near St Mark's Square is superb. Guest rooms are classically decorated with tasseled drapes, carved wooden headboards, and floral wallpaper and all come with flat-screen TVs and minibars. Many have views of the canal. The free breakfast buffet includes pastries and other cold items. Rates are competitive, especially for such a convenient location.

Scene

Typically Venetian decor with Murano chandeliers and beamed ceilings

There's nothing particularly impressive about this tourist-friendly hotel from the outside. It's housed in an unassuming 16th-century canal-side palazzo with simple pinkish-orange stucco frontage and a grubby white awning marking up the entrance. Inside, the aesthetic is better, with a handsome marble-topped reception desk that's tucked away under the rafters of a wooden-beamed roof, accompanied by ornate, classically styled furnishings and Murano glass sconce lighting. The Venetian styling continues throughout the intimate hotel, with elegant glass chandeliers and beamed ceilings.

Location

Canalside location, a two-minute walk to St Mark's Square

The hotel is in a prime position on a canal, a two-minute walk from St Mark's Square, in an area filled with shops, restaurants, trattorias, and gelato stalls. The Museo Correr is just off the square and has a great collection of medieval weaponry, as well as old coins and paintings. The Rialto Bridge is only a five-minute walk from the lobby door. The Santa Lucia railway station takes about 20-minutes to reach on vaporetto (water bus), while the airport can be reached in just over an hour.

Rooms

Air-conditioned rooms with classical Venetian interiors, some with canal views

The hotel has 18 rooms with classical Venetian decor that includes damask wallpaper, gilt-edged antique-style furnishings, and tasseled draperies. Some have canal views, but those that don't look right out onto the walls of neighboring buildings. All rooms include individual climate control as well as flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and minibars. Beds are plush and comfortable and have beautiful carved dark-wood headboards. Tiny bathrooms have walk-in showers and bidets plus hairdryers and free basic toiletries. Some of the bigger rooms have small kitchenettes with dishwashers, while others have cute vanity sinks in the bedroom.

Features

Free continental breakfast and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout

The hotel serves a buffet breakfast of pastries and cold items in a sunny upstairs dining room with skylights and contemporary decor. There's also free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the property and the front desk can help guests organize tours and other activities. Like with most hotels in Venice, there isn't a full restaurant on-site here.
