Antony Hotel

The mid-rise building that houses the Antony looks like it had its heyday in the 1980s. There are small touches here and there that give the exterior a more updated look, such as shrubs in sleek black pots, but some may find the refurbished interiors a bit garish, with gold columns and red ceilings in the lobby and restaurant. The furniture in the lobby is a mishmash of styles. Most guests here are people looking for a convenient spot to spend the night before heading off on a cruise or to the Marco Polo Airport nearby, although it can be used as an affordable base for going on day trips in Venice proper.

The hotel is located in a sparsely populated area along the main road that connects Venice to Trieste. It’s an easy five- to 10-minute drive to the Marco Polo Airport and the hotel has a shuttle service available on request. The hotel is on a bus route that takes about 20 minutes to reach Venice; bus tickets can be purchased at the front desk. 

There are 114 rooms at the Antony, and many have been renovated, though the style is spartan and lacks character. Refurbished rooms have thin gray carpeting and bare white walls, along with gold and red runners on the beds. The Deluxe Rooms have a bit more personality, with ceramic suns hanging over the beds and large prints of Venetian scenes on the walls. The remaining non-renovated rooms have a ghastly orange color scheme of the sort that was popular in the 1970s. Amenities include small flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Bathrooms have large glass-walled stall showers or shower/tub combos. The hotel serves a well-stocked buffet breakfast with cereals, fruit, meats, cheeses, pastries, and some hot items along with juices and coffee. Dinner is also available at the restaurant, which gets good reviews from past guests. There are also indoor and outdoor play areas for children, with babysitting available. The hotel has two meeting rooms and a “day office,” which is essentially a desktop computer perched on a table next to a printer. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. A shuttle service to and from the airport and the cruise terminal is available upon request.
