The Camping del Garda site has a range of sleeping accommodations, including campsites, bungalows, and mobile homes. Some of these, the bungalows in particular, are worse for wear, but the mobile homes are generally newer and nicer. The grounds are right off the shores of Lake Garda, and there are two large pools and two children’s pools on-site. Camping del Garda attracts mostly young families and others traveling on a budget.
Scene
A budget option with few frills
Camping del Garda provides a fairly inexpensive way to see the beautiful Lake Garda area and enjoy the various attractions it has to offer, from the amusement parks to the walking and biking paths. Camping del Garda attracts mostly families and travelers on a budget. The number of children and young travelers who stay at the campsite can make the experience a bit of a gamble—while at times it’s pleasant and quiet, if a large party comes through it can be noisy. The bungalows and mobile homes do not block sound, so guests are reliant on one other to keep the level of noise down. There are two large pizzeria restaurants: The Garden Risto & Pizza is a large, two-room restaurant with counter service. The space is reminiscent of camp cafeterias, with a lot of long tables and a pointed wood ceiling. The slightly nicer Plaza Restaurant is equally sprawling, but has a higher level of decor, with thick brown tablecloths and sconce lighting.
Location
Conveniently located for travelers, off beautiful Lake Garda
The camp is located next to the famous Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake. Steps from its shores, Camping del Garda is also a few minutes' walk to the town of Peschiera del Garda, making restaurants and stores easily accessible. (The town is divided by the mouth of a river, and the campsite is on the eastern side; the bigger western half is about a 20-minute walk.) The camp is very close to the highway that connects Italy to northern Europe and is popular with foreign travelers. Nearby attractions include Gardaland amusement park and the zoo.
Rooms
Ranging from basic to unacceptable
While everything at Camping del Garda can be described as rudimentary in nature, some spaces have fared better than others. The bungalows in particular are run-down, with basic furnishings, faded upholstery, and worn motel blankets. The mobile homes are newer and in better condition. They range from very poor in style -- upholstery and countertops of a kind you might find in a pre-school -- to basic but tasteful, with dark wood cabinets and purple and pink seat cushions. Bungalows and mobile homes have multiple bedrooms, making them well suited for families, and include TVs and air conditioners.
Features
Large pools with kid-friendly extras, an on-site grocery, and laundry
The pools at Camping del Garda are large and invitingly blue. The two children’s pools are equipped with a number of sides and mushroom top fountains for extra fun. In addition to the two on-site restaurants, there is a grocery and essential goods store on premise, and the shops of Peschiera del Garda are only a short walk away. There are also several coin-operated laundry machines, and computers available for guest use in the office. There’s a functional tennis court, and another more run-down court that has basketball hoops and soccer nets.
