Scene

Urban multi-story chain hotel

From the outside, the Hampton Inn & Suites is mostly made up of protruding glass windows and cement walls. Inside, glass accents are warmed up with a fireplace and a cluster of brown leather armchairs. Fresh apples and fruit infused water are available for guests. A short flight of stairs leads up to the generic-looking breakfast room. The on-site restaurant, Bogart's, has a hip and youthful vibe. It's a popular spot to grab craft beer and a nosh before and after a sports event (or guests can watch sports on one of the flat-screens). Red umbrellas are a cute accent to the outdoor sidewalk seating. Expect many guests coming and going to the nearby cruise ship port.

Location

At the corner of Robson and Beatty streets

The location is a real selling point at this Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Vancouver. The hotel is directly across the street from Rogers Arena, which serves both as Vancouver's football and soccer stadium, and as a concert venue. Expect a solid six block walk uphill to get to the heart of Vancouver's shopping and restaurant scene. Yaletown, the Seawall, and Chinatown are also nearby. Free bikes and a first-come-first-serve shuttle make exploring a little easier. There's a daily fee for underground parking at the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious and clean with (some) kitchen facilities

There are 132 rooms and suites at The Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Vancouver. Each is decorated in earth tones and gray carpeting with connecting gold circles patterned on it. White textured coverlets and four plush pillows top the beds. Silver sculpted lamps and light wood furniture look more luxe than what's usually found at this price point. Creature comforts include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and a microwave, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Some rooms have full kitchens, and the suite is more like an apartment than a hotel room. Generic bathrooms consist of single sinks in a long vanity, shower/tub combos covered with a white fabric curtain, and Neutrogena toiletries. Some rooms have cool views of the stadium and downtown Vancouver, while others overlook neighboring rooftops. Cleanliness and internal noise aren't problems here.

Features

Bar and restaurant, lots of freebies, and rooftop whirlpool

Features at The Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Vancouver go above and beyond what most chain hotels offer in the area. The list of freebies includes daily breakfast, bike rentals, shuttle service, and Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. There are two meeting rooms and two event spaces, along with a small business center providing computers and a printer. The rooftop whirlpool has expansive views of the city. An adjacent fitness center is on the small side but provides modern cardio equipment and a sauna. Bogart's gets great reviews for its trendy sports bar fare, local beers, and cocktails. There are cement tables on a rooftop patio, but the space isn't landscaped. Small pets are allowed for a daily fee.
