Bottom Line

The four-pearl Beach Club Resort sits right on the beach and has hosted celebrity guests like Queen Elizabeth II. There are a variety of good amenities like an indoor pool, spa, hot tub, and gym. The 149 rooms have balconies, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, and many have ocean views. Some are even self-sufficient with fireplaces and kitchens. There have been some reports of cleanliness issues. The restaurant serves seafood and a hot breakfast in the morning, but it costs a fee. Travelers could also consider the Tigh-Na-Mara Resort which has lovely cabins in a forest next to the beach, kid-friendly amenities, and a grotto spa.

Scene

Beachfront property with a lodge-like decor, contemporary spaces, ocean views, and clientele of couples

Beach Club Resort, built in 1917, has hosted famous guests like Queen Elizabeth II and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. In 2008, the Beach Club Resort opened its doors and today it pays tribute to its past with a memorabilia wall in the lobby. From the outside, the property looks like a mountain lodge with wood and stone accents. The grounds are green and the hotel is just steps from the beach, separated only by a wooden walkway that follows the beach line. Inside, the decor is pleasant and contemporary with glossy floors in the lobby and gray leather couches next to a fireplace. There’s a warm atmosphere to the restaurant which has ceilings with exposed wooden beams, wooden tables with leather chairs, a cozy stone fireplace, and an outdoor patio with beach views. Couples are the main clientele, drawn to the romantic ocean views from some rooms and the beach atmosphere.

Location

Located on the beach and a five-minute walk from shops, restaurants, and grocery stores

The Beach Club Resort is one of the few beachfront hotels in the area that looks out at the Salish Sea. There’s a lot going on in the neighborhood and shops, grocery stores, and restaurants are within a five-minute walk away. For those with a car, it’s a 14-minute drive to MacMillan Provincial Park and 19 minutes by car to the Little Qualicum Water Falls. It’s a seven-minute drive to the Morningstar Championship Golf course. The Qualicum Beach Airport is a 13-minute drive away. Vancouver International Airport takes four hours to reach by car.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and private balconies

Rooms at this property are pleasant enough, but reflect more of a contemporary chain style than upscale or trendy decor. All units have brown carpeting, wooden furniture, white beds, and brown and tan accents. They’re equipped with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, wet bars with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, DVD players, and safes. Private balconies are a great perk, though not all come with great ocean views. Suites offer additional amenities like living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens with stoves, ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Bathrooms feature granite counter tops, shower/tub combos, Hydro Spa toiletries, and hairdryers. Separate showers and tubs are available in the upper-level rooms. There have been past reports of minor cleanliness issues.

Features

Indoor pool, hot tub, restaurant, hot breakfast, spa, gym, free Wi-Fi, and free parking

Ocean views are the Beach Club Resort’s major selling point, so many of the features cater to that. For instance, the indoor pool and hot tub overlook the beach and ocean, as does the the Pacific Prime Restaurant. It offers a fresh seafood menu, room service, and hot breakfast for a fee. Other leisure activities include a spa with massages and beauty treatments and a small gym with cardio and weight equipment. The fitness room has limited hours. Guests with meeting and event needs can take advantage of two meeting spaces and a business center. There’s free Wi-Fi and free underground parking, which includes electric car charging stations.
