The Westin Valenica is a large, high-end property that's also a good base for discovering the city. The hotel combines classic style with modern technology, drawing many business travelers and large groups with its several ultramodern function rooms and banquet hall. Housed in a majestic white building, easily one of the most impressive structures in the city, the hotel is within walking distance of the center of Valencia. There are three on-site restaurants to choose from -- including those offering Mediterranean and Japanese fare -- plus a cocktail bar/club with terrace. The Caroli Health Club is a great place to replenish, with thermal and water treatments, and guest rooms are large. However, some can be loud and there are fees for Wi-Fi, parking, and use of the heated pool.
Scene
Majestic property catering to business-elite and luxury travelers
Originally constructed in a modernist style in 1917, The Westin Valencia is a traditional Spanish-style structure with marble and touches of dark wood. Renovated in 2006, the three-story building is noted for its regal landscaped courtyard at the center of the property. There are spaces to sit and drink around the lively fountain area, a lush Mediterranean garden with palm trees and well-manicured shrubbery, and a terrace overlooking it all -- a wonderful place to spend long summer nights. Adding a bit of whimsy, colorful plastic teddy bears adorn the grounds. A small, circular lobby has large chandeliers, high ceilings, and warm gold-yellow tones. Hallways have a more corporate feel with desks, chairs, and sofas for impromptu meetings.
Location
Quiet, upscale neighborhood nearer to the historic center than the beach
Travelers exploring this beautiful, historic city will find a good base at the Westin Valenica, which is easily accessible by subway. Located in a quiet, upscale neighborhood outside the main tourist areas, the hotel sits along Plaza Del Real, separated from the old town by a tranquil park. Guests can walk 20 minutes along the Jardines de Turia to reach the historic center -- the path has many restaurants, bars, and shops, and is great for shaded jogging and evening concerts. The City of Arts and Sciences, with incredible architecture, is further along the path. In the hotel's immediate vicinity there are fruit stores, cafes, and a military museum. Still, it's a bit removed, so those wanting fast access to the old city might prefer to take a taxi or metro (about a 10-minute ride). The beach is about 20 minutes away. Though it's a quiet neighborhood, the Estadio De Mestalla football stadium is just across the street, and home games draw loud crowds.
Rooms
Large rooms with plush bedding and business-friendly features
Rooms are decorated in soft, muted tones -- with red lamps for color -- and have sofas and armchairs, signature beds, and down duvets. Large desks are especially designed for business travelers, providing plenty of space to set up a laptop or spread out papers, with reading lamps provided. Rooms have a somewhat corporate feel, with heavy wooden paneling and generic-patterned carpeting. Bathrooms have ceramic and stainless steel fixtures, granite sinks, and marble touches -- plus deep-soaking tubs or signature high-tech showers. Rooms either face the garden or have high-walled balconies with street views (good for private sunbathing). Patios are quite large, with basic tables, chaise lounges, and retractable awnings. High-speed Wi-Fi, multiple entertainment options, and a minibar are other notables, but they require a fee.
Features
Three restaurants, a cocktail lounge, and a landscaped courtyard with a terrace
The Westin Valencia offers plenty of amenities to justify its luxury hotel status. The Caroli Health Club is a great place to relax and rejuvenate with a therapy pool, sauna, hammam, and chromatherapy shower. There's also a well-equipped fitness center and a serene indoor pool. Art-lovers will appreciate the in-house gallery on the lower level, showcasing original and modern works. There's a generous buffet breakfast offering local, natural products -- other dining options include Mediterranean fare at El Jardi Restaurant and Bar, the more casual Rosmarino Restaurant, and Japanese cuisine at Komori. Guests can enjoy cocktails or a nightcap at the H Club>Valencia, with live jazz in the evenings. There's a nearby bike rental agency, as well as a public pool just next door to the hotel, which requires a fee. Business travelers have access to several high-tech function rooms and a banquet hall.
