**This property sustained significant damage during *Hurricane Irma* and is currently closed for repairs until February 2018. We will update our review as soon as we have more information.** Paradise Cove is a small 21-room property on the East End of the island. Around the corner from Red Hook on a quiet side street, the property is serene and peaceful. There are stunning views of Nazareth Bay throughout the resort and a distinctive tearoom is both convenient and delicious. While the rooms in the Escape building are nicely updated (and pricier), the other rooms are dated and in need of a facelift. However, the resort is still a good mid-range option for those looking to save some money in the pricey Red Hook area.
Scene
Private and serene condo property with sweeping views
Set on a hillside overlooking Nazareth Bay, Paradise Cove is quiet and relaxed. Due to the small size of the hotel, the staff is attentive
and present, and provides personalized service to guests. The resort offers
both privacy and convenience.Guests are a mix of families, couples, groups of
friends, and even some business travelers. The resort offers long-term rentals
as well, and the amenities, including full kitchens and on-site laundry, are a
good value choice for a long holiday. The rooms are set in various buildings throughout the
property and all look a little different. The Escape and Serenity units are on
the lower levels of the property and staying in them involves a lot of walking up and down steep
stone stairs. The townhouses and cabana are located on the upper levels. There isn’t a lot of public space on the property, although
the spacious rooms and living areas in many units help make up for this. The pool is
at the heart of the property and is popular among guests, as is the on-site
cafe, Cup-N-Kettle.
Location
Around the corner from downtown, on a peaceful side street
The villas are located slightly south west of Red Hook, down
a quiet residential street. There aren’t many restaurants in the immediate
neighborhood but Red Hook is a short (five-minute drive) away. The roads
are narrow and not pedestrian-friendly, so driving is recommended. The proeprty is not located on the beach. The nearest beach is Secret
Harbor Beach, a seven- to 10-minute walk down a quiet road.- Four-minute drive to Red Hook
Rooms
Has both updated condos at a higher price and older, more affordable rooms
The Escape condos, located on the lower level of the
property, are the most updated units at the villas. They have large, modern
kitchens with rustic white wood finishes, black appliances, and tile countertops.
The kitchens come stocked with pots, pans, cutlery, dishes, and glasses. Each unit has a four-seater table, a seating area with a flat-screen
TV and couch, and a balcony with stunning bay views. The bedrooms are modern with clean green bedding and cherry wood
furnishings. These rooms are more expensive than the other accommodations on the property. The Serenity Cottages and Studios are not as updated, but are
attractive and spacious. Each cottage has a stocked, full kitchen and a large
living room with a brown microfiber couch and glass dining table for four. The
decor is neutral with some palm tree art. The bedroom is large as well with
dark wood furnishings and modern art. The studios are lock-off units off of the
cottages (they can be combined, or used separately) and are spacious as
well. The studios have full kitchens and small dining tables. The townhouses and cabana are older and could use a
facelift. While the townhouses have an interesting loft-style design with a
spiral staircase, the units look dated and feel cheap, with wicker living
room furniture and a small, rustic kitchen. The bathrooms have older tile. There is one cabana unit which is located near the pool
area. While it offers beautiful bay views and is in an unusual setting on the property, the unit is in need of a facelift. The kitchen has dated cabinetry, exposed shelving, and an old microwave. The bathroom is old as
well and the vanity and shower could use replacing.
Features
Pool with a view and a neat tearoom cafe
The pool is at the heart of the property on the middle
level and offers stunning views of the area. The pool is small and
rectangular, but due to the small size of the resort, it doesn’t get crowded.
There are tables, chairs, and loungers around the pool. During our visit in
December 2014, new pool furniture had been ordered. The pool has a propane grill
that is available for guests to use.The resort’s on-site cafe, Cup-N-Kettle Tea House, is a
delightful eatery at the top of the property, near the entrance. Decorated
in the style of a traditional teahouse, the tables are adorned with lace and fine china. The cafe serves a variety of teas as well as pastries, sandwiches,
soups, and salads. The property features a scenic gazebo set on the top level that has gorgeous views. There is also a nature trail that winds down to a cove,
but the beach is not swimmable there. Crystal Cove Beach Resort at Sapphire Bay has similarly priced rooms and is right on the beach. The resort offers free Wi-Fi, which is available in some rooms
and all public areas. There is a licensed masseuse on-site.
Weddings
Multi-purpose room and scenic gazebo for weddings and events
The resort’s Inspiration room is a multi-purpose space at
the top of the property that can host meetings, religious services, or
weddings. The room has great sea views and can accommodate up to 50 people. A
scenic gazebo next to the room serves as a lovely ceremony area.
