Bottom Line

The Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah stands out for its private beach and stunning cascading layout. Two infinity pools, six dining options, a spa, gym, and hot breakfast buffet, add to the luxury appeal as well. The 282 rooms and Villas are lovely with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and balconies, though not all units have ocean or beach views. Villas often have the added perk of private plunge pools. Still, guests must get around by golf shuttles and it’s constantly busy here, resulting in overcrowding, long queues, and occasional unresponsive service. For something quieter and more adult-focused, consider the Al Wadi Desert, Ras Al Khaimah, Ritz-Carlton Partner Hotel which has free in-room Wi-Fi and outdoor activities like horseback riding.

Scene

Large family-friendly resort with a beautiful, but widespread, layout and crowded spaces

Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah is a large resort that sits on a pretty stretch of private beach and attracts a clientele of couples and families. The hotel is made up of cream Nubian-style buildings that cascade down a hill toward the beach and along a lagoon. They are accented by lovely palm trees, native plants, and flowers. The Villas and rooms are spread out from the hotel’s restaurants, pools, and beaches so that free golf shuttles are required to get from one place to the next. As for the interiors, they’re elegantly designed. The restaurants have tall curved ceilings, glossy wood floors, iron chandeliers, and contemporary seating. The outdoor patios are just as chic, some have woven outdoor furniture and cream or orange paddings, and others have wood chairs with yellow pads on a colorful tiled terrace. The beach bar is particularly fun and set with bean bags alongside the oceanfront. Though the hotel is lovely to look at, it does come with its shortcomings like overcrowded areas and reportedly not enough staff to accommodate guest needs and services. Expect that room cleanings may be late, golf carts might take a while to arrive, food takes a bit to prepare, and valet parking assistance is generally going to result in a wait.

Location

Beachfront location with some nearby attractions within a 10- to 15-minute drive

Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah has a lovely private beachfront location, that's over an hour-drive north of Dubai. Guests here tend to stay on-site, though surrounding the hotel are some restaurants, bars, and a few supermarkets. However, a car is ideal to reach a diversity of options. It’s about a 10-minute drive to the Ice Land Water Park and 15 minutes by car to RAK Mall. The Ras Al Khaimah International Airport takes 35 minutes to reach by car.

Rooms

Sophisticated rooms with flat-screen TVs, kettles, minibars, and balconies; fee for in-room Wi-Fi

There are 282 rooms and Villas at Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah. The rooms are decorated in a minimalist Nubian style with cream walls, curved brick ceilings, espresso furniture, cream couches, and pops of baby blue in statement walls and pillows. The Villas feel a bit more sophisticated with an entirely cream, beige, and brown color scheme. All rooms have balconies or terraces and some have beach or bay views. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi for a fee, kettles, bottled water, expensive minibars, and safes. The One-Bedroom Villas have private gardens and extra space, while Two- to Three-Bedroom Villas feature private plunge pools. Some Three-Bedroom Villas have kitchenettes with two-burner stoves, refrigerators, and sinks. Bathrooms have marble sinks, bidets, showers with half-glass doors, hairdryers, and toiletries.

Features

Pools, private beach, gym, spa, restaurants, meetings, free Wi-Fi in public areas, kids' club, and valet parking

Guests in the Villas may choose to lounge at their own private pool, but there are also two infinity pools, a children’s pool, and over 650 yards of private beach to enjoy. There’s also a wellness center with a variety of features like a spa with a hot tub, sauna, steam room, and massages on offer. The hotel’s gym is spacious with varying equipment and fitness classes. As far as dining options go, beach or pool-goers are both serviced by their own bars with snacks and drinks. There are only two main restaurants, Cinnamon All Day Dining, which has international buffets, and Basilico Mediterranean Restaurant, a more upscale affair with Mediterranean cuisine. Breakfast buffets at Cinnamon include hot and cold items. The lobby lounge is great for pastries, cakes, and coffee and tea, while 24-hour room service takes care of late-night needs. For events and meetings, there are three fully-equipped meeting rooms and free Wi-Fi in public areas. Families can take advantage of a kids’ club and babysitting services. Valet parking is available for a fee, but it’s received lots of complaints concerning service.
